hmmmm, well after the Seacoast Forum shutdown, I kinda came over here, and peeped around, felt a bit intimidated by all the miltary stuff , and then having some personal and medical issues. I also missed talking to Sparky, as he always has interesting things to say and doesn't talk out of his ass, like certain other people do(nobody here unless they are trolls)

As for improvements... the only thing I can say is that ya all should drop the login forever feature and make the default an hour or two. I never noticed it for like 3 months and always wondered why when I got back on I was always logged in. That ain't good in my opinion.

I can see why it could be an issue, but I kind of like it as a feature. However I haven't had to login for a few weeks so I forget if the option is on by default or not. If so it would make sense to have something less as the default option.

If I didnt' have the login forever option on things, I'd probably be there once, and never be able to make it back into my account.   :p

Ditto.  I like that feature, and it's a testament to the stability of the site as opposed to TOS.

My only suggestion would be that when a person H5's you or bitch slaps you, it should show up on your personal page so you know who did it. I'm on a wrestling site and it does that and gives you an option to leave a message as to why you did it. Keeps people from bitch slapping cowardly. Just a thought....

You did read Unbiased's followup post over concern that banning may occur when one acquire's a certain number of BS's, right?

As a recently new member, just off of probation, Unbiased did not understand "Karma".

Since this is a frequent issue, particularly regarding the BS's, maybe a sticky should be done at the top of the Intro and Welcome forum explaining Karma to new members. It might eliminate their concern over being banned. Especially since H5's are seriously given, and BS's usually as a "gotcha".

I'm sure "older" members will take the opportunity to further explain BS's to the noobies. Certainly with warnings regarding peach cobbler, rabbits vs ptarmigans, etc.

Frank,

are you into stamps, too?

Yeah, but only stamps up until 1971; after that, they seemed to deteriorate, quality-wise.

I never bothered collecting those pre-cancelled stamps sold by the socialists and third-world countries, either.  Only stamps that had actually been used for postage.

So anyway ... here's how I found about this place. I googled a screen-name and at the top was CC.

That's the first I've heard of anyone finding conservativecave this way.

Ya know... Perky is really dumb sometimes and if Perky is dumb, other people are too.

Dunno about the software ya all using but I would think that maybe if someone hasn't posted, or accessed the site, in some period of time it should log you out. Just a suggestion of course.

I wasn't aware this was a concern; as a moderator, I'm always set to get here once I turn on the computer, but I thought that was just a moderator thing.

On my computer, the deal is no matter what I do, I can't get to either "visiting" or "member" status.  I dunno why, but it's not a big deal, and hence I don't worry about it.  I have two other accounts here, as a regular member, "DU AdBot" and "Peter Shilikov," but I can't get to them; only to "franksolich."

But it's not a big enough deal for me, personally, to worry about it.

Those two other accounts, by the way, are on the up-and-up; DU AdBot had been created specifically when the DU AdBot primitive won one of the top primitives of 2009 award, so as to announce its own award.  The other one was created to remove an obnoxious screen-name from the "newest member" on the first page.  The screen name was really bad, and there for the longest time, so I wanted to shove it away, off the first page.

Ah, yes, NHSparky.  He's kicked me in the head for superficial judgement and trite comments, which of course naturally endeared him to me more and more.

Somehow, Frank, the terms "NHSparky" and "endear[ing]" appear to be mutually exclusive.  :lmao:

Although, I'm sure Sparky would be the first one to say, "Aw, shucks, I love everybody and everything and the only bad things in life are those that the sorry sonsabitches bring on themselves."

You see? Sparky can't even start out graciously without slamming some poor bastard he doesn't even know!  :rotf: :lmao: :rotf: :lmao:

I found it when someone here (Trav?) made a post on Newsbusters:  "If you'd like to "read" the Democraticunderground without actually having to go there, you can do that at Conservativecave.  Go find the DUmpster forum."  And so I went.

I can't think of a single thing to change, I've thought long and hard about it.

It may have been Traveshamockery, or it may have been Ballygrl.

I recall that one of those two asked me if it would be "appropriate," as if franksolich were the final word on what's "appropriate."

conservativecave had gotten off to a slow but steady start, traffic getting better every month, when this was posted on Newsbusters.  After that, conservativecave spurted upward quite a bit more, leaving the steady-but-modest growth of the preceding months in the dust.

There's been a couple more big spurts since then (spurts that never fall downward), but this was the first one.

I don't want him/her to waste a second of their time worrying about something so silly and insignificant.   Both the H5 and BS are not anything of consequence, and certainly not any indication of how well someone debates.

So If people think I am unreasonable and I don't know it, I would like to know why. Like I said, just a thought.

My post was done in jest -- welcome the BS unbiased, because nothing gets more  than a thread that echos like the canyons.

I don't bother with any new stamps, either.  Are you any good at telling the difference between Finnish and Russian stamps, after the change to the Russian coat of arms in 1901?  I have quite a few very large bags of all kinds of stamps- nothing before 1970 (that I have ever found).  The Russian stamps were always my favorite, and so I managed to sort most of those out of the bags that I have.  The Finnish ones looked almost exactly like the Russian ones for a time, and I have a hard time telling them apart.

I don't bother with any new stamps, either.

Those stamps cancelled but still with glue on the back, and the postmark very neatly placed in a corner, were first marketed by eastern European countries under socialist domination during the 1950s.  Later on, the Soviet Union itself, and then third-world countries, started making them because stamp-collectors bought them.

But they were never, really, postage stamps.  They had never been used to mail letters.

Yep. It happened that way. I figured you went somewhere else and I figured you were still posting under the same name. It was a link to the Dumpster too! Quite a big bonfire IIRC, but I couldn't tell you what the topic was now.

I was just thinking of security. If someone was to post on the family PC, then it could be a problem. It don't bother me specifically as I have my own PC. Also I was thinking that maybe the site showed someone as being logged in when they actually aren't. Like I said... not really a complaint, just a suggestion. It ain't like a banking website or anything like that.  :cheersmate:

You have the option of setting your login length before you're automatically logged out... 1 day/week/month or forever.  Not sure what it does by default though, since I'm always logged in.

Time for that once-a-year survey of the membership, so as to figure out what works, and what doesn't work.

conservativecave seems to be working astonishingly well, the numbers (traffic) going up-up-up every single month, the sky being the limit; obviously conservativecave does what works.

But it's that time of the year anyway.....

(a) what brought you to conservativecave?  (a member already here, google search, whatnot)

(b) any suggestions on how to improve conservativecave?

(a) I was invited...and very grateful for that!!

(b) No suggestions at this time.

 :-) :-)

Actually, relations between members here is a concern of mine; I want everybody to get along.

When it seemed you and NHSparky were having some ill relations, I thought about getting in the car and going all the way up over to your area, to hold a powwow, and threaten not to leave until you guys smoked the peace pipe.

I have known Sparky since 2004.   Love him like a brother and fight with him like one also.  We don't hold grudges (no crybabies allowed).

You should have seen the sports forum we used to post on -- we beat the snot out of each other daily.   Good times.
