I asked for a 42" flat screen so I will probably get a spatula or a box of toffee.

It beats a pair of socks.  One can never have too many spatulas.

Probably worth a lot of money by now.

Solid retro.  I remember our aluminum tree and color whee when I was a kidl.  Lost to the vaguerities of time, alas.

This aluminum tree is perfect.  I bought the tree and color wheel from an eBay seller about six years ago for $175.00.  I've used it one Christmas.

We have about nine different trees of all sizes and reasons in the garage.

That's on the Mancubs list as a matter of fact.

Got a nice digital camera for the oldest and the little guy is getting a small TV for his room.  Those are the BIG things.
Few odds and ends here and there to round out.

I remember when I was a kid, how grown up I felt when I got my first tv in my room :)  hehe

We have a rule in the house that if you are home sick from school you are in bed ALL day.

There are remarkably few "Fake" sicknesses, lol, but when he's sick it would be nice for him to have something to do in bed.  Plus there are days when I just flat out would rather blow my brains out than watch the Spongebob Movie again in the living room.

Take it from a dad who made the mistake x4.  Don't get them bedroom TVs.  Not until they are at least 13.

I never had a TV in my room when I was younger.  I got a small one when I was in high school, and it was only good for broadcast TV.

The "entertainment" in our house was an enormous bookshelf, but it was all fiction and novels.  Blah.  Give me something I can dig into, something with some history.

My formative years with my own room were 1967-1971 (age 12-17).  All I had to occupy me was my stereo and my desk.  I don't remember being bored.

I did a lot of reading, and regular trips to the library.

By the time I was in the 3rd grade, my parents were tired of watching Disney movies and gave me a 13" color tv for Christmas.  :)

As far as anyone's gifts, of course I haven't shopped.  LOL!  I asked my SIL what to get for the boys.  The 5 & 7 year old want some sort of ball thingy that I can pick up at Target.  The baby is getting clothes.  Mom gets a book and Dad gets a movie.  I just have a few other people that I still need to think about what the heck to get them.

I decided today that I really want a Wii.  But a Wii is really only worth $100 to me, so it's obviously out of my price range, so I'm gonna ask my dad for one.

With five kids, no one got a TV in their room.  We listened to the radio and played records.  Anyone else listen to WLS-89 from Chicago when they were younger?  I just saw something on You Tube yesterday about WLS so that brought back some great memories from my youngster days.

Do you mean the Big 89? I used to listen to it in the 70's. I have some vague memory of a commercial for the "smokin' US 30 dragstrip" or something like that.

We will have been together 15 years in January....and he wouldn't dare give me an appliance for Christmas!

My birthday is the 22nd .....which is not Christmas!.....so he gets double hit at the same time. I usually get a "big" gift on my birthday and gift certificates and something to open (several times it's been a Waterford ornament)on Christmas.

Since he looks for the path of least resistance....he hits the jewelry store on my birthday...though he made the comment a week or so ago, I was not getting anymore jewelry except for one piece and I wasn't getting it yet. That would be an engagement/wedding ring....but it's still under debate when....I haven't exactly accepted... :uhsure:

I love gift certificates. Either to a dept store or spa....not for my hair or nails as those are routine, but for a massage or facial ....which I'm less likely to spend on myself.

My most favorite gift from him though was a custom made fishing rod. He taught me years ago to like fishing and when he gave me my own rod....with teal green wraps - my favorite color which he hates - meant so much. Way more than the diamonds every have.

My second favorite is a simple gold bangle bracelet that he gave me my first birthday we were together....I always wear it.

My kids either give me specific books that I want or gift certificates to the spa. The gift certificate amounts are indicative of what they can afford....manicures are cheapest....massages are the most. I have received multiple manicure GC's. :-)

Clothes are never a good gift....particularly a flannel nightgown.  :hammer:
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

As my wife (as well as the ex-wife) has made painfully obvious to me, I don't know what women really want.  I'm putting this thread up to take suggestions for good, relatively inexpensive Christmas presents.  I was leaning toward a book of "coupons" for things done for her, like "one romantic dinner" or "rake the lawn"... any ideas, ladies?

Docstew,  Just ask her to give you some ideas,Most women like things that sparkle. But what do I know, I was married the last time for 20 years,an I never received a gift at Christmas, Birthdays, Valentines or Mother's day. So to me I could get a romantic dinner ,a rose, and a card with special note on how they appreciated me ,loved me and what I mean to them. I'd be happy with any small gift. Be it needs to come from the heart. I'm a romantic anyway.

And say Thor had already got my gift. He's really great.I'm Blessed.

Debk has some great ideas.

And if a woman says she doesn't want anything, don't believe her. You'll be in trouble.

Going off-topic here...

Gary Meier was still on WLS through the end of 2003, before a contract dispute broke up his partnership with Roe Conn.  My favorite afternoon show in Chicago.  Meier got back together with Steve Dahl for a few guest appearances over the past few years, but he's not been working regularly since.

I've got a picture of with of myself with Meier from his golf outing in 2003.  If I can locate it, perhaps I'll post it.

A nice silky PJ, and not the trashy type. Something that feels really good to the touch, covers from neck to foot, and if your in a colder climate warm for the winter.

I'm an old fart, and I've bought a lot of gifts for gals over the years.
This works.
Buy a picnic basket: The old fashioned kind with two lids like in the movies.
Get a red/white checkerboard tablecloth...like in the movies.
Bottles of wine, two wine glasses, some cheese and goodies. Candles.

She'll think you spent ages on a theme gift just for her. Chicks LOVE this! I used to have at least two or three sets like this in my apartment during my twenties (I was a dating fiend then!). Get em on sale, and you won't have to spend a dime at Christmas.

Remember girls think they are Psychic, and they will over analyze your gift. To a gal, gift giving is a test of your inner psyche. Give her every reason to think it took you at least a month of pre-planning to get this gift.

The coupon idea is good, but NOT for Christmas. She wants a tangible thing to hold in her hand. Coupons are good as an addition to you gift at Valentines day or some 3-6 month bogus anniversary.

Remember you will be graded on this. If she asks, it took you a month of searching to find the right basket (cause you a guy, actually spending time shopping for a gal is impressive).

Jewelry in my mind is bad. ONLY if you are going to marry her. Its a substitute for...commitment!
Frankly: is a very chick thing. To me, a glass/zirconium jewel looks like the real thing, so its just as good. Its for looks anyways. If no one can tell the difference, whats the big deal? A chick is looking for a way to judge how you value your relationship, and the price tag is a perfect way to do that.
Fear, oh mortal man. Jewelry is bad!
