It's David Frum's argument, not mine.  And the point is the entertainment complex that lies to you fools, not a general point about right wing media.  Read the book, if you can come out from your underground bunker long enough to get to the library or a bookstore.

Frum's a RINO that made his career badmouthing conservatives to a left wing press that gobbles it up. We're wise to his schtick and we're not impressed. Megan McCain and Joe Scarborough have the same career path and get the same pats on the head by lefties. Big deal. I suppose your idea of news is msnbc, think progress and talking points memo.

Of course.   Keep pushing everyone out of the party.  That's why you have no voters left.  Only the certifiably insane and the rich assholes so selfish they don't care how bat shit crazy the rest of the party is.  You guys can't eat your own fast enough--a party in complete meltdown.

You're kidding, right?

Surprisingly, no.  The NYT and WashPost are left wing rags.  Even the WSJ is to a large degree except for the editorial staff.  So is ABC, NBC, CBS. etc...

DUers are so far to the left, they think the left is the right.  Part of their major problem.  They have no idea where the center is.  Try explaining it to them and you get some nonsense.

I offer this primitive the same offer I have to all of them.  I'll be glad to discuss any issue with them, but only in person.  Just give me your name, address, and phone number; I'll take it from there.  I'm very sure that when confronted in person, the things they say while on-line are much more cordial.  IOW, they won't dare say things that are smartassed because they know they'll get their teeth punched down their throats.

Well, this thread has become far more interesting than I imagined it would.

Yeah, and I missed out on it.

<<<had guests, went to town to eat.

We've had some bona fide primitives show up once in a while, and I always have something else going on.

The only exception was when the late Tangerine LaBama showed up on December 17, 2009, and by most fortunate luck I was here, and able to intercourse with her.....for hours.  She was full of all sorts of good information on primitives; I grilled her incessantly, and she spilled bushels of beans.

She gave us all the lowdown on many primitives, but she adamantly refused to speak ill of the adroit sparkling old dude, alleging their close friendship.  Wouldn't say a word about Stinky the Clown, no way.

But one takes what one can get.

However, that was the only time a primitive and franksolich managed to carry on a conversation (actually, three of them at the same time; here, in e-mails, and in instant messenger).

There's one primitive I really want to chitchat with, and even meet in real life, and I'm always worried he's going to show up some time, and I can't be around.

What is the fascination with DU?  You truly are fixated.  I find it very strange.

Don't you realize the DU's notoriety interwebs over the past several years?  There are plenty of sites that follow the insanity posted over there.

What is the fascination with DU?  You truly are fixated.  I find it very strange.

As you can tell, madam, I had to leave right before you made the comment.

Sorry about that, but social niceties in real life take precedence over what's on the internet.

Now, I will admit I am fascinated, utterly fascinated, with the personalites and the antics on democraticunderground.  There's a great deal of drama and excitement almost all the time, excepting when the primitives get fixated on one single issue for a while, ignoring all other issues.

But on the whole, it's marvelous entertainment.

You perhaps don't know this, madam, but I'm deaf.  Born that way; stone deaf.

Hearing people have access to all sorts of sources of entertainment--television, radio, the stereo, movies, concerts, telephonic conversations, dinnertime chitchattery, arguments with the significant other.  All those past-times are absent from this life.

So.....what's one to do?  I of course work.  I of course tend a very large piece of property.  I have cats.  I got more friends than one can shake a stick at.  I read all the time, real books, usually those 600+ pages and considerably footnoted, probably at least five of them a week, if not more.  I collect pre-1861 English copper coinage.  I collect memorabilia of Clare Boothe Luce, the most remarkable woman of the 20th century.  I dabble in phrenology and homeopathy.  And yes, I have a woman, a remarkable person who teaches dance and theater arts, and she's always getting me involved in those things.

But still, that doesn't take up all of one's time.

There's a lot of empty hours.

In the absence of television, radio, whatnot, I watch the primitives on Skins's island as if I'm watching a several-hours-a-day soap opera on television.

An unconventional way of spending one's time, I suppose, but I make no apologies for it.  What else can one do for diversion, amusement, entertainment?

I think watching the primitives is a very constructive use of time.

3. OMG, Here's the story

Last edited Mon Apr 8, 2013, 09:29 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

I have a lengthy ignore list. I created a separate account some time ago to be able to read all the ATA posts because you can't read those signed out. Once I saw Skinner respond to a post in ATA saying people could have multiple accounts if they behaved themselves, (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1259892 ) I made a few posts with it an even sent a couple of alerts. I was not locked out of alerting from this account at the time. First night I did that Skinner noticed it was me and Tombstoned the account but was kind enough not to TS me entirely. For that I am grateful.

Now he thinks I created that account to circumvent alert restrictions, which wasn't the case. Regardless, it was an incredibly stupid thing to do, the sort of thing I did in the middle of night when I couldn't sleep.

So I will not do it again and just have to go on without reading ATA posts from people on my blocked list.

So some of the guys want to make a big deal of it. I ignore them. Whatever.

My explanation is here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1255&pid=19985\\

Don't let them bait you with that. Some people aren't able to treat people as individuals. That sock was no one's fault but mine. Some want to use it as a club to beat HOF, which is obviously absurd. I was the only one who had that sock. Not the rest of you. So ignore them. These typically are people who don't like to comment on the substance of threads but prefer to distract with personal swipes. That's their problem. Not yours.

7. I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry

It was stupid of me. That blame, however, is shared by no one else on this site. You are responsible for your own actions and I for mine. You did nothing wrong. The notion that you are somehow guilty by extension is absurd. Anyone who thinks that has seriously issues with imposing collective guilt.

11. Yeah, at 3 in the morning

I somehow thought, it's okay because Skinner said you could use multiple accounts. After I communicated with him, I thought, what the **** was I thinking? He rightly pointed out the use was not in good faith. It was an incredibly stupid thing to do. It wasn't the first time I've done something majorly stupid and it won't be the last, but it is the last time I'll use a sock. That is guaranteed. The thing had 19 posts and was active for one night. They'll talk about it for years, no doubt. So all the posts about a dogs life are about me. Hence my new sig line, which I have taken to appropriate and thereby remake the insult.

This is my own opinion, but I don't fault primitives for being attached to Skins's island.

We all have our favorite places to hang around.

What I do fault is the primitive attitude that we spend "all day" here, and they don't spend all day there.

Surely you're aware that it would, uh, excite comment.

Maybe a photograph not so flauting, and no one here would've noticed; there's a great deal to be said for modesty, and speaking as a red-blooded male, I personally find understated modest women much more attractive than loud flashy brassy ones.

It's what I happen to look like.  Is that how you behave if you see a busty woman offline? The other picture I first posted linked to my job, which wasn't a good move considering the attention some on the web seem to take in complete strangers.  (Case in point).

The fact you don't find me attractive has nothing to do with it.  I don't expect you to.  I'm way too old to worry about what men think about how I look.  There is nothing loud or brassy about my appearance, dress, or demeanor.  What a funny comment.  I am opinionated, but dress more like a librarian than anything.  You don't like the way God created me.  There is nothing I can do about that.  Now go back to looking at pictures of Paris Hilton or whoever else it is that meets your standards of beauty.

I can't imagine why a Republican would fritter his time away by reading posts from people he despises.

I can only speak for myself, but I read the lefts point of view at DU because I'm absolutely amazed at how they think and feel about things. I'm the product of a bi-political marriage, my Dad was a Republican and my Mom was a Democrat, she stumped for Stevenson to Carter, the JFK of 1960 wouldn't recognize his party today, my Mother became a Republican about 8 years ago, she doesn't recognize her party anymore, her Brothers and Sisters were all staunch Democrats, they all became Republicans.

Have you looked at your party today? how can you not see that you're the party of destruction? look at every major city in the US, look at the poverty, the war on poverty has been going on for how long now? is it better? your party lives off the misery of others, they show their faces every election and promise this and that, they win then they leave. Please told me how Obama and Democrats have improved the lives of their constituents on the South Side of Chicago? Tell me how the lives of people are improving in the State of California? everywhere there's Democrats in charge there are communities that are destroyed and miserable and full of people who are downtrodden. The Democrats through the welfare program have committed genocide in the black community, you don't care about black people, you only care about their vote and keeping the white fat cat Democrats in power, you destroyed the black community and now you want to expand your horizons and destroy the hispanic community and the white middle class.

You have nothing, nada, zilch to be proud of, your fingers point everywhere except where the fault lies, and that's with you. Just wait until the cost of Obamacare starts next year, you can say bye bye to the number of people who call themselves Democrats, they'll sit out the election or they'll vote 3rd party.

You consider this success

This list provides a simple calculus of how much each state receives per tax dollar paid, per recipient.  Anything over a dollar means that state receives more than it pays.  Another under a dollar means that state subsidizes the rest.

New Mexico  $2.03
Mississippi  $2.02
Alaska  $1.84
Louisiana  $1.78
West Virginia  $1.76
North Dakota  $1.68
Alabama  $1.66
South Dakota  $1.53
Kentucky  $1.51
Virginia  $1.51
Montana  $1.47
Hawaii  $1.44
Maine  $1.41
Arkansas  $1.41
Oklahoma  $1.36
South Carolina  $1.35
Missouri  $1.32
Maryland  $1.30
Tennessee  $1.27
Idaho  $1.21
Arizona  $1.19
Kansas  $1.12
Wyoming  $1.11
Iowa  $1.10
Nebraska  $1.10
Vermont  $1.08
North Carolina  $1.08
Pennsylvania  $1.07
Utah  $1.07  29
Indiana  $1.05
Ohio  $1.05
Georgia  $1.01
Rhode Island  $1.00
Florida  $0.97
Texas  $0.94
Oregon  $0.93
Michigan  $0.92
Washington  $0.88
Wisconsin  $0.86
Massachusetts  $0.82
Colorado  $0.81
New York  $0.79
California  $0.78
Delaware  $0.77
Illinois  $0.75
Minnesota  $0.72
New Hampshire  $0.71
Connecticut  $0.69
Nevada  $0.65
New Jersey  $0.61

The source is the Tax Foundation, which is FAR from  a liberal outfit.  The results were reposted here:
http://scatter.wordpress.com/2009/02/16/red-state-blue-state-welfare-state-subsidizing-state/

This list means nothing without also listing population, average income, cost of living and retired persons per state.  Having a higher income in New York or Los Angeles doesn't mean the quality of life is higher than in a red state with fewer people, and where you get a lot more for your money.  For what a small  apt in New York costs you, you can get a big home in another state.

Also, what about farms, interstate Hwys and military installations?  States receive federal funds for those too, even though they benefit the whole nation.

Now, don't take it too hard, madam.

That's a big problem with primitives; they have no sense of humor.

Now, I never said I found you unattractive.

Out of proportion, yes, but that's not the same thing as "unattractive."

It's more like "hmmmm, interesting," or "ah, highly unusual."

I have some women friends who are top-heavy, and may God consign me to Hell if I ever thought the least bit ill of them for that anatomical feature.

And as for "the way God created" people, I have no argument with God.  God knows best.

I wouldn't want, for example, the adroit sparking old dude, Stinky the Clown, to be any different than the way God means him to be.  The world would be a much poorer place if my favorite dude were as I'd prefer him to be, rather than the way he is.

However, I still think he'd be better off without that trophy wife of his; he deserves better.

As far as I have any say in the matter, you, madam, are fine as you are.  Interesting or highly unusual, yes, but fine the way you are.

Actually I'm in proportion.  You've only seen my top half.
I'm afraid I don't even know your favorite DUers.  Not that anyone really knows anyone else online, but they aren't people I recall much about.  I have no idea who anyone on that site is married to.  I pay more attention to what people write, and even then I only can keep so many posters in my head.   I probably am not interested in the same threads that attract your friends.  The SS hysteria is one subject, for example,  I can't be bothered to indulge.  I understand many members are retirees and are much more concerned with it than I, and I respect that.  I myself just don't spend time in those threads.

I knew some of the  Men's group posted over here.  They seem so reactionary, some of them have to be right wingers.

Just have to be. Couldn't be a dem with an opinion different than yours. Guess that big tent isn't so big.

There's a difference between my involvement with DU and the rest of you here.  I'm actually a Democrat.

DU is one of the best places to study the liberal mind. It's like a mini society run by liberals. Rules list a mile long. Police force to monitor you so no one deviates from the hive mind or you get booted out. An alert system to catch the dissenting opinions. It's a lovely utopia with complete freedom, unless you disobey.  Or beg forgiveness, then they'll let you stay.

Speaking of primitive:  this discussion board interface you have is so 1990s.

And DU is the most moderated, rule driven discussion board I've ever seen. It's hilarious to watch.

Would you spend time in those threads if a Republican was in charge and proposing cuts?

Actually I'm in proportion.

Ah, no, sorry, but I don't believe it, not for one minute.

To be in proportion, you'd have to have a body like the oblate spheroid nadin, and actually she's one of a kind; there can't possibly be anybody in the world anywhere similar with the way she hangs her skin.

(My theory is it's probably due to overuse of pharmaceuticals that makes her that awkward shape, but that's another topic for another time.  Damn primitives would rather use drugs than change their life-styles and habits.)

My "picture" of you is that of someone who lists rather heavily to the front; now, I'm not saying it's unaesthetic, I'm saying it's, uh, remarkable.  One of the most remarkable women in my life--the one who took me in after my mother died--was that way.  Her top protuberances always arrived a minute or so before the rest of her.

Wonderful woman; she was Republican National Committeewoman for Nebraska at the time.

Upon further reflection, apparently our newest member doesn't understand franksolich's sense of humor.

franksolich is not a boobs man; far from it.

franksolich is moderator of the DUmpster, one of whose responsibilities is to post things of interest to the reading public.  Whatever the public wants, I'm here to serve.

Some other members here are boobs men, and so while I think it's silly, I have the obligation to post things of interest to them, just as I have the obligation to post other things of interest to other members.

If that's what they want, if I can find it, that's what they get.
