Berea College's Statement from the Alumni Page:
On Wednesday, students approached College administrators to provide support for a trip to New York for them to participate in the “Occupy Wall Street†event. When the College became aware of their plans, we too got involved in working with the students to ensure the educational value of such an experience as well as details regarding transportation and their safety and well-being. Despite the efforts of many, there simply was not enough time to coordinate details that would ensure reasonable safety for the students before their scheduled departure. Because 50 students had signed up, we were particularly concerned that there was only one faculty member who was able to accompany the group.
College administrators have been working very closely with the students over the past three days, and have expressed to them our willingness to continue to work with them toward a safe and educationally valuable experience when all of the procedural arrangements can be met.
