A friend of my nieces lives in ElPaso, TX. She is a midwife there. Anyway she had sent me some photos on ElPaso and surrounding areas.Mellinesa(sp?), New Mexico. What a beautiful area!! I have always wanted to go to Texas, now I really want to go!!!! They have these pecan groves that go on for miles!!! There is also a pic of the border fence...

It is funny that we live in such a country, that the differences (climate, topography)between the states are so extreme....

Texas is so huge that we pretty much have all types of climates and terrain.  East Texas has the piney woods.  Down around Houston is humid and muggy like the deep south.  The deserts out west are beautiful.  The panhandle plains are bitter cold in the winter with tons and tons of snow.  Central Texas has the beautiful rolling hills and scraggly Mesquite trees.  It's a very neat place to live.

I happen to have a travel book on Tx which came with a map. I was thinking of taking a plane to San Antonio and traveling by bus to El Paso. Will have to do some research...

That would bore you to tears.  You'd only see hundreds and hundreds of miles of featureless desert  My suggestion is to go from Texarkana to El Paso.

I grew up there and still haven't seen half the state. I'd love to go to Palo Duro Canyon and Big Bend.  I think a road trip is in order :)

Yeah, there isn't much to look at from the Metroplex to El Paso.  Went with some college friends on a spring break drive to Tucson/Phoenix/Vegas.  We got about an hour or two outside Fort Worth and were starting to get bored.  Well, being young & stupid, we saw a drive-thru liquor store & bought beer for the rest of the drive.  It seemed to take FOREVER to get out of Texas.

From Junction, TX to Ft. Stockton, TX is miles and miles of miles and miles but you can do 80 mph so it helps.

There are 3 places I love in Texas.  The east Texas Piney Woods, The Hill Country and West Texas around Big Bend/Alpine.  The Davis Mountains are AWESOME especially on a motorcycle.

Thankyou for that advice,,,,I like Nature Preserves,botanical gardens and history. I was just reading an article on the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Eagle Pass looks interesting as does Laredo

Summer in DFW is really the best time.  Late July through August.  :-)

Ralph, yeah Dallas is just f'n WONDERFUL in July/Aug time frame IF you like 100+ degree temps and a high relative humidity.  :whatever:

Seahorse, the mountains East of El Paso are fairly nice, but once you get past Van Horn and all the way to Big Springs is pretty much desert. I've driven I-10 to I-20 quite a few times (and on into Dallas)

Uh, I dunno, maybe it is because he lives in North Central Texas????  I ain't talking NORTH NORTH Central Texas, where you are, just North Central Texas, where we are.  It isn't much to look at, really.  Comparatively speaking anyway.

One year I decided to take a couple of summer school classes & couldn't believe how freaking hot it was.  Day after day after day.  Better than cold, though.

The absolute worst was the "formal" part of fraternity rush every year.  We all had to wear coat & tie for the first two days of rush.  Absolutely brutal.

my in laws lived in Livingston for many years. but the family is up here in MO. so they packed and moved back here last summer
