I've only found a couple of places that are decent. I'm pretty disappointed in the places I have available to me locally. It all goes back to the old adage, "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

BBQ is an art form. Too many people THINK that they are "artists". Eupher can attest to my BBQ.... (I could have & have done better, but it was still pretty good)

I think the bbq is good down here, but like Thor, I get mine from people that do their own.  Once stuff becomes too commercialized, the quality goes down hill.  Sure, you can get it, but it isn't all that special.  Although, Babe's Chicken House does ribs quite well.  For brisket?  I have peeps.  If I find em on sale for a good price, I will donate one to the bbq-er in question to do mine up right. 

One thing I loathe around the bbq places around here is the premade tater salad.  It is a crime to buy it already made, and serve it.  IMHO.

Darnedest place I ever traveled through except the salt flats in Utah.

Desert at night in August, the Moon and stars look like they are only 100 feet over your head-- Amazing, the size of the moon out there.

Some places are much like being out to sea you can look as far as you can see 360 degree in all areas and see the curvature of the earth----
-----sort of.

I don't know really what I expected Texas to be like but every day after 10 hours on the road the landscape changed.  That is one Mother of a state, HUGE.

Pick where you are going very carefully, Unlike up here , Texas is so large it would be like you trying to visit all of New England and New York in one or two weeks.

Do not be surprised if you decide to transfer stores to live in Texas, Wide open spaces  gives meaning to Gods Country .

Hubby lived in Waco and LOVED it,  He got an apartment on the campus of Baylor U. through the company he worked for and a couple years was transferred back north, I think he cried all the way home.

I don't know about transferring stores, but i would love to see the open skies, never been to a desert before. Never seen a prairie. I know when i go, TX will be everything I dreamed it will be.
Of course there are a few other states I want to see as well. Do you know i have never seen the Grand Canyon?? or Mt Rushmore? I better get cookin....

Mount Rushmore is overrated. Yellowstone is something to experience. San Diego is worth a visit. The Permian Basin of Texas kind of sucks (West of Midland). It just stinks.

Gee whiz, if you haven't been much of anywhere,  you need to see more!  Not Disney, but real stuff.  Texas is a good start, but there is so  much more.  I agree with Thor, Mount Rushmore is cool, but you have to spend so much time to get there, it really isn't worth it.

The problem with 'seeing' Texas is it is SO DAMN BIG.  Hell you come into Texas on I-10 in Orange and the mile markers are 990 range.  It is farther from me to El Paso than it is to Chicago!

One one of my leaves from San Diego (that's "vacation" for you civilians), my car broke down 60 miles West of Pecos, TX. just as I crested a hill. There was a snowstorm that hit El Paso and Van Horn behind us and the truckers were saying that there were no rooms in Van Horn. The tow truck driver took pity on me and towed me to Pecos for $50. My ex & I got the very last room in Pecos. Did I say that I was driving a Datsun?? The next morning, after freezing our butts off in the hotel room, I tore into the car to see what was wrong. Major Transmission damage due to some faulty maintenance by a dealership. Not a single place in town that carried ANY Datsun parts. Nearest place was Midland, which was still 150 miles away. MY Dad drove from Denison to Pecos, we hooked up the car with a tow bar and towed it back to Denison. That was New Year's Eve day, We fought a snowstorm most of the way back. After New Year's Day, I got the equipment together to pull the engine & tranny. I pulled those from the vehicle and figured out what I needed. $800 in parts later and waiting a week, I reassembled the tranny and reinstalled everything. Did I mention that it was snowing and sleeting all the time I was working on the car and I only had a carport to work under. I rented a torpedo heater and got a tarp and closed off the carport as best as I could. Thank God I was younger then. Even so, El Paso was only halfway between San Diego & Denison. Go figure....
