Just read some of the OP from this, but I don't understand why it would be legal to carry a firearm in the area but illegal to shoot it. WTF?

Ok, yeah a good bit of responses to that one. My opinion is if the bear was charging them, of course he had to right to shoot. It would almost be human instinct to do so. If the bear was just around them, then no he didn't have the right to shoot. We do have to share nature with the animals. Even the big ones. But basically it is their word against a dead bear's who couldn't talk anyway. I am happy they came out alive. Being in any area with Grizzlies is going to be dangerous to a certain extent. Doesn't mean we should shoot them if they just show up. If there was a legitimate threat, then of course save your life by whatever means necessary.
