I guess Obama thinks the other 115 Senators will take care of this if he's the only one missing.................I mean the rethuglicans only have 48 Senators out of 116

Is he going to suspend talking to the American people in times of crisis? I dont know.. I want the guy to be able to do more than a few things at once. North Korea is doing something curious today - McCain cant run into his office to deal with single situations at a time.

BUT, having said all that. This is our economy at stake right now.. whether its real or not. The Congress seems to believe its a life or death situation. But I'm still not convinced it is..

That was the impression I got as well.  I saw McCain make his announcement live on Fox.  By the time I got back from lunch, Barry was just catching up.

Obama’s suggestion.  But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy.  If that changes, we will call upon them.  We need leadership; not a campaign photo op. If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now.”

A source close to Reid said McCain didn't have much to say after that. Reid, the source says, thinks McCain's maneuver is a gimmick born from bad poll numbers and the fact that "debate prep must not be going very well."

Yet just yesterday Reid said they needed McCain to vote cause it probably couldn't pass without it.......................................what a dumbass just playing politics

thats what I read on CNN earlier today: this thing wouldnt pass without McCain agreeing to it, and the rest of the GOPers would fall in line to get it passed. otherwise, the Dems know they cant pass it alone.

Harry Reid is the one grandstanding here. McCain's primary job right now is in the Senate.. and that is every bit as important as whatever Reid is doing. But Reid never misses a chance to sideswipe his 'friends' in the Senate..

I have a feeling this is what the media spin-job in Barry's favor is going to look like...

I'm impressed with what McCain is doing.

Obama's response.....Washington can call if they need us...that's what we have big airplanes.... with our slogans painted on them....for.

Now...I'm not really sure what was the point of mentioning the slogans....but considering there's a fuel crisis going on.....many of us in the south are having problems finding gas....I thought it was a rather insensitive remark. As some on said....obviously he didn't have his teleprompter.

Katie Couric announced just before the President started speaking that the President has invited McCain, Obama and others to the White House tomorrow to discuss the bailout.

Guess Obama is being asked to come back to Washington.

I get nervous any time I hear President Bush speak.  Whenever he does, I know it's going to cost money.  I'm sorry, but more government is not the answer.  De-securitizing mortgages and amending the CRA to pre-Clinton status is about all Congress needs to do.

Teh ooooobama needs to realize that the American people value their livelihood above partisan politics. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a story about the "next great depression". The economy issue isn't going to go away and this will come back to bite him in Nov.

^ditto. major eyeroll. Now teh Ooooobama has some cover (at least to his worshippers) because he can't very well turn down an invitation from the sitting president!

I'm sure he'll make some condesending remarks and get his Bush digs in after tomorrow too. And, he'll probably disagree with whatever the conservatives have to offer and say that his ideas were shot down. You know how those McBush meanies are (more eyerolling).

He really is politically tone deaf.  If the MSM didn't need someone to eliminate the hated clinton machine, the messi-uh would still be opening supermarkets in Chicago's South side.

he may have to be retrained.  he didn't vote that many times to begin with, and it's been a hell of a long time since he last voted.  maybe the saxby chambliss (or someone) will trick him into voting for something else.
