Has anyone gauged the public's response to this suspension yet?  The moonbats are going berzerk.  I was stunned at first, but now I think it's a brilliant move.

I was leaving work and had Sean on at 3pm. He spoke very briefly about the suspension and went straight to the press confrence.

All I could say was ****ing brilliant. The O would not follow suit......................well unless tomorrow the polls show how much he screwed the lipsticked pig.

Obama to me now comes off as selfish and petty. Putting himself ahead of the country (really more so that I thought before of his communist ass). I guess Obama thinks the other 115 Senators will take care of this if he's the only one missing.................I mean the rethuglicans only have 48 Senators out of 116

wow.  he suspended the convention for Ike, and is suspending his whole campaign for the bail out bill . . . .

he is certainly putting all of his chips on this deal of the cards.

I'm just catching up here with the news, but yeah, he is being a bit dramatic about this dont ya think?

Is he going to suspend talking to the American people in times of crisis? I dont know.. I want the guy to be able to do more than a few things at once. North Korea is doing something curious today - McCain cant run into his office to deal with single situations at a time.

BUT, having said all that. This is our economy at stake right now.. whether its real or not. The Congress seems to believe its a life or death situation. But I'm still not convinced it is..

Unilateral disarmament it may be.

But every time an Obama ad runs in the next five weeks - especially since 77% of the man's ads have been deemed "negative" by those who measure sugh things - I can see teh Obamessiah taking a "HUGH" hit for it.

it's a lose-lose for obama.  if he continues to campaign, he is looks craven and opportunistic.  if he submits to mccain's request, he looks like a follower, and mccain looks like the real leader.

ok, now thats just brilliant.

good job McCain  :cheersmate:

That was the impression I got as well.  I saw McCain make his announcement live on Fox.  By the time I got back from lunch, Barry was just catching up.

unfortunately, both houses of congress are run by petulant teenagers.

Quote
Reid to McCain: Don't Come Back to Capitol

A Democrat tells ABC News that, in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, D.C., to work on the Wall Street bailout bill.

McCain this afternoon suspended his campaign and said he would skip the first presidential debate in order to return to Capitol Hill to work on the log-jammed Bush administration legislation, which, as of Wednesday afternoon, was in peril.

When contacted, the McCain campaign did not have any comment.

McCain had phoned Reid to ask about the prospects of him, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and others to sit down and work together on hammering out a bipartisan proposal.

"Sorry," Reid said to him, a Democrat close to Reid says.

Reid then read McCain the statement he had just put out: "This is a critical time for our country," says the Reid statement. "While I appreciate that both candidates have signaled their willingness to help, Congress and the administration have a process in place to reach a solution to this unprecedented financial crisis. I understand that the candidates are putting together a joint statement at Sen. Obama’s suggestion.  But it would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation’s economy.  If that changes, we will call upon them.  We need leadership; not a campaign photo op. If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now.”

A source close to Reid said McCain didn't have much to say after that. Reid, the source says, thinks McCain's maneuver is a gimmick born from bad poll numbers and the fact that "debate prep must not be going very well."

Link

Yet just yesterday Reid said they needed McCain to vote cause it probably couldn't pass without it.......................................what a dumbass just playing politics

thats what I read on CNN earlier today: this thing wouldnt pass without McCain agreeing to it, and the rest of the GOPers would fall in line to get it passed. otherwise, the Dems know they cant pass it alone.

Harry Reid is the one grandstanding here. McCain's primary job right now is in the Senate.. and that is every bit as important as whatever Reid is doing. But Reid never misses a chance to sideswipe his 'friends' in the Senate..

I have a feeling this is what the media spin-job in Barry's favor is going to look like...

Quote
Obama says that "there are times for politics and there are times to rise above politics and do what’s right," but now is not the time to cancel the debate. "This is exactly the time when people need to hear from the candidates." And: "Part of the president’s job is to deal with more than one thing at once. In my mind it’s more important than ever."

I suppose Obama couldn't very well follow McCain's lead. In fact, if McCain had really been serious about this, he should have worked it out with Obama in private, so that the two men could make a joint announcement. McCain went for political theatrics, and I guess he can use it against Obama now, which was probably the point, but Obama's reaction was so predictable that McCain's show of statesmanship was entirely bogus, so I will be impervious to that rhetoric.

I'm impressed with what McCain is doing.

Obama's response.....Washington can call if they need us...that's what we have big airplanes.... with our slogans painted on them....for.

Now...I'm not really sure what was the point of mentioning the slogans....but considering there's a fuel crisis going on.....many of us in the south are having problems finding gas....I thought it was a rather insensitive remark. As some on said....obviously he didn't have his teleprompter.

Katie Couric announced just before the President started speaking that the President has invited McCain, Obama and others to the White House tomorrow to discuss the bailout.

Guess Obama is being asked to come back to Washington.

Will he go?

I get nervous any time I hear President Bush speak.  Whenever he does, I know it's going to cost money.  I'm sorry, but more government is not the answer.  De-securitizing mortgages and amending the CRA to pre-Clinton status is about all Congress needs to do.

Guess Obama is being asked to come back to Washington.

Will he go?

According to this, he will now:

Quote
WASHINGTON -- With extraordinary stakes on the line, President Bush has invited both presidential candidates and the leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Thursday in hopes of securing a bill to rescue the economy.

Bush took the unusual step Wednesday night of calling Democratic Sen. Barack Obama directly to invite him to the meeting, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. An Obama spokesman said the senator would attend. The White House has also invited Republican Sen. John McCain.

Because President Bush asked him to???

This is gonna leave a mark!

Teh ooooobama needs to realize that the American people value their livelihood above partisan politics. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a story about the "next great depression". The economy issue isn't going to go away and this will come back to bite him in Nov.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Harry Reid's problem is simple enough to solve.  Pass a bill before McCain gets there, and he will have no need to come.

harry was willing to allow the economy to crash and burn just so he could stand in his chair and scream like a two year old,
blame bush, and hopefully that would push obama across the finish line.

^ditto. major eyeroll. Now teh Ooooobama has some cover (at least to his worshippers) because he can't very well turn down an invitation from the sitting president!

I'm sure he'll make some condesending remarks and get his Bush digs in after tomorrow too. And, he'll probably disagree with whatever the conservatives have to offer and say that his ideas were shot down. You know how those McBush meanies are (more eyerolling).

Barack Hussein Obama has gotten himself into another lose/lose situation. If he votes for the bailout, he'll be siding with his friends on a very unpopular issue. If he votes against it, it'll anger his base and make him look Bush's little bitch again. I bet he wishes he could vote "present".

he may have to be retrained.  he didn't vote that many times to begin with, and it's been a hell of a long time since he last voted.  maybe the saxby chambliss (or someone) will trick him into voting for something else.
