Title: A challenge to lurking Objectivists and/or students of Objectivism
Post by: Boojatta on May 26, 2012, 10:04:26 AM
I have some questions for you to post on a board that welcomes questions about Objectivism.  Feel free to post your own revised version of these questions.  If you wish to, then of course I cannot prevent you from linking back here to explain what motivated you to post the questions.  However, I don't provide my moral sanction.  I am hoping that it's possible to get answers to the questions themselves, regardless of how people might feel about things that I have written in the past.

Questions:

1.  Is Goldbach's conjecture "arbitrary" in the same sense that the assertion "God exists" is said to be "arbitrary"?

2.  Is it possible for there to be evidence supporting the claim that Goldbach's conjecture is true?  Alternatively, do the following four cases exhaust all possibilities?
A. Goldbach's conjecture is known to be true,
B.  Goldbach's conjecture is known to be false,
C. There is no evidence supporting the claim that Goldbach's conjecture is true, and no evidence supporting the conjecture that Goldbach's conjecture is false
D. There is evidence supporting the conjecture that Goldbach's conjecture is false

If you aren’t interested in how (other) Objectivists or students of Objectivism might answer the above questions, then please nevertheless check back later.  I intend to post additional questions (on other topics, but for Objectivists) in this thread.

If I could do that, then I think that I would be able to answer my own question.  Are you suggesting that the connection would be a directed connection from the substance of the first post in this thread to the topic of pie, and not vice versa?  I intended to make no such assumption.

Are you working on a thesis or something?
I think that what I am working on belongs in the "or something" category.  I am puzzled about why the opposition, in this thread, to the first post of the thread involves playing the cards so close to the chest.  Neither pie nor cake is a hint.  What is the objection if there is one?

I bought a blueberry pie from a local orchard last Sunday.  It made it to Tuesday.  My daughter and wife joined me in contributing to its' demise, and we were happy.  May have to go and get another pie today.

The Very Berry pie sounds really good, warmed up with vanilla ice cream melting on top. Just add a big, steaming cup of black coffee.

I believe it.  The shame is that nobody has had the guts to articulate and then post in this thread an actual objection to the first post in this thread.  However, I remain hopeful, and will return to this thread at some time in the future.

You can run back to DU and tell them how stupid we all are here, isn't that what you are going for after all?
We just made it easier for you to do so, because we don't care what a bunch of social misfits think of us.

If you want to have a serious discussion, use the forum properly and post your discussion in an appropriate forum.

You're taking yourself far too seriously, little fella.

It's OK, though. We more than make up for it by not taking you seriously at all.

Reread the thread. The answer lies before you.

The DUmpster is a forum to showcase the idiocy of the left primarily from DU but other leftist sites are included.
There is also latitude given as far as a poster making challenge to lurking DUmmies calling them out on their endless hypocrisy.
It is not a forum to discuss philosophy so please don`t do that.
There are other forums here where subjects like this can be taken up.

Its the development of...PIE that allowed mankind to leave the caves and open little cafes all over the world.

The first translation from one language to another was, "Do you like Pie?"

Fact: Only man can make pie. Other species may enjoy eating a pie, but no other species can make a pie.

We are free because we have pie. You will never find all the varieties of pie in communist countries because they are enslaved...Pie is only for the ruling elite, not the people. Further, no one ever put pie in the face of a commie official.

Cakes require rising; cheesecakes do not rise.

Pies are self-contained in a crust; cheesecakes are self-contained in a crust.

It's a similar debate to the "Tomato: fruit or vegetable" controversy.

But, pie crust comes up the sides.  Cheesecake "crust" is only along the bottom.

Again, eating cheesecake is the only way to do the research. :-) O-)

I volunteer to research the Boston Cream Pie paradox, just as soon as I finish off the blueberry pie and ice cream. Wonder if I can get a grant...

I'll have to do some searching. Haven't seen Boston Cream Pie at the commissary or the grocery stores in town.

It is not a forum to discuss philosophy so please don`t do that.
I was hoping that somebody might post my questions on some message board(s) about Objectivism.  I was hoping to see how Objectivists respond on their message board(s).  I wasn't hoping to have a philosophy discussion here.

Then why post it and not pay attention?  Already, there has been discussion and proof of how pie separates humans from animals and what pieness characteristic separates pie from cake.  We are regularly covering the grounds of how pie brings joy to all - wasn't Socrates deeply interested in the good?

I think we have objectively proven that pie is good.  Things like ice cream and cool whip can be added to improve the good.  This is a good discussion.  You should be proud.

Boston cream pie is teh roxxors. That's all I feel the need to say about that.

"Boston cream pie is teh roxxers."

I don't want anybody to post with the expectation of being banned, or to post without being interested in what is posted.

After all, we all have intellectual property rights in what we have written, but the ideas expressed in our writing aren't subject to copyright.  In future, somebody might remember the idea of this thread, find a different way to express it in words, and post it on a message board about Objectivism.  Perhaps you wouldn't want that to happen, but it might happen nevertheless.

Who wouldn't be proud to spread the joy of pie?  Those who hate pie probably hate puppies, new car smell, and a solid ass scratch.  Those people are already suspect.

I have it on good authority that Socrates, not long before he uttered those immortal words, "I drank WHAT!?!" ordered a double Boston cream pie.  With cool whip.

It seems to operate on a number of false assumptions about us.

When it's assumptions are shown to be false it does not correct its assumptions, it assumes we are at fault for not accepting its assumptions.

Booj seems to have a mysterious fascination with rules, and manipulating them, rather than just posting whatever is really going in his or her mind.  Perhaps it is part of the Gulag zek mentality from having to survive over 10,000 posts on DU, but in the free world it comes across as being as pathological as saving bread crusts in your pocket for the escape attempt when you've already been set free and gotten a job in a bakery.

Do you have some special talent for determining how many views are from people who posted replies and how many views are from lurkers?  I have reached no conclusion about the opinions, interests, or attitudes of people who lurked without posting.  This reminds me of a couple of DU threads that illustrate the workings of the DU noise machine and the DU outrage machine.  Perhaps I'll post those trips down memory lane in the DUmpster forum here at CC.

I have not had a good berry pie since me and my ex got one from a farmers market outside of Auckland. She was a psychologist with a minor in philosophy. I asked her what she thought of pumpkin pie one and she said it sounded gross and weird. So I concluded kiwi's are not very objective about pumpkin pies.
