A Staten Island grand jury has voted not to bring criminal charges against the white New York City police officer at the center of the Eric Garner case, a person briefed on the matter said Wednesday.

The decision was reached on Wednesday after months of testimony including from the officer, Daniel Pantaleo, who used a chokehold to restrain Mr. Garner, who died after a confrontation. It came less than two weeks after a grand jury in Ferguson, Mo., declined to bring charges against a white officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown.

For days, the New York City Police Department has been readying for a new round of protests, which began in the city after the Ferguson decision and which were expected to continue and possibly grow if the grand jury declined to bring charges against the officer.

This could have all been avoided without nanny-state regulations.  Liberals placed heavy taxes on cigarettes in New York, which causes people to purchase them out of state, and attempt to sell them on the streets back home in NY.  Conclusion: Dummies killed Garner.

In an honesty, I thought the chokehold was excessive, even with Garner resisting arrest.

Once again the DUmmies fail to grasp the obvious. This would have all been unnecessary if there hadn't been a crime being committed in the first place.

This case also has hastened the wearing of cameras by NYPD officers, which I support.

I also support the broken windows law enforcement. This incident happened while Garner was selling 'loosies', something that was complained about by local businessmen in the area where Garner died. That is the basis of the 'broken windows' policy. Keep the small crimes down, and it will help keep the bigger ones down too. It started under Mayor Dinkins during Commissioner Bratton's first go around as NYPD commissioner. It is what started the decline of crime in NYC.

Broken windows, goes after even the petty criminals after the crime has been committed. which is FAR different from the stop and frisk, which tried to stop crimes before they were committed, which is really impossible.

This Dummy seems slightly rational.  Obviously still a Dummy, but he/she can at least grasp some of the f acts.

St. Swisher was drilled while trying to beat a white cop to death.

This fat guy in New York was selling untaxed cigarettes. Tobacco has no DUmp cred.

If he'd been selling crack or weed, the DUmp would be exploding a hell of a lot more.

The 'Shouldn't have been illegal in the first place or it wouldn't have happened,' like Hannity was bellowing today, is really a non sequitur.  If it was their normal level of force for nonviolent offenders, is that how they handle people who want to argue about parking tickets or other petty offenses with the State as the only victim?  The guy was committing a revenue violation, a pretty trivial one at that, the level of force was pretty disproportionate to the situation and I can see how the people already pissed at the cops would be sent into orbit on this one.

Of course in the People's Democratic Paradise of New York, there is nothing more serious than a revenue violation, since it threatens the Great Mother State.

The fat guy wasn't wrestled to the ground for selling illegal cigarettes.

He was wrestled to the ground for resisting arrest and fighting with officers who were trying to handcuff him.

When you resist arrest you should expect to receive as much physical force as necessary to complete the arrest.

The original offense becomes irrelevant when you begin to fight the police.

The cops can't be required to take a criminal's medical history before the arrest.

I only raised that point because Dummies want a nanny state, but then bitch and whine about the consequences of the nanny state.  There's no reason for a box of ciggs to cost 15 dollars an hour.  But nanny-staters tax the hell out of ciggs in New York.  As a result of this ridiculous taxation, people are now bringing in ciggs out of a state to try and make a profit. 

At the end of the day, Garner should not have resisted arrest.

I'd take that a step further and say it is the criminal's responsibility to be aware of their known health limitations and make sure they don't do anything to cause these limitations to be exceeded.  In the case of garner, getting in a fight with 4 or 5 COPS was something to push his medical limitations past the redline position.

I wouldn't bet the rent on that.  Holder's DOJ could very easily decide to go after the NYPD as a whole on a 'Disparate impact' basis.  They haven't been shy about using that BS to count coup in racial politics issues before.

There was no major unrest in New York despite a video. I suspec the news media showed parts of it, not the whole thing.
