Grand jury reaches decision in case of Ferguson officer

A grand jury has reached a decision on whether to indict Darren Wilson, the white Ferguson, Mo. police officer whose fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager sparked days of turbulent protests, sources close to the process said.

Sources said that press conferences are being prepared by the county prosecutors’ office and the Missouri governor. Those press conferences will likely come later today.

The announcement gave no indication of whether Wilson, 28, will face state charges in the August shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, which triggered a frank conversation about race and police interaction with African-Americans.

The grand jury’s decision is the latest turn in a case marked in the national consciousness by the stunning images of protesters looting stores and police wearing riot gear and deploying tear gas in the days after Brown’s death. Details of the grand jury’s deliberations have leaked out in recent weeks, angering the Brown family and protesters who saw it as a signal there would be no charges filed.

I don't think there's any question that Wilson will not be indicted. Nixon, the governor, has called out the National Guard, citing an 'emergency' and there have been enough leaks to indicate no indictment.

If the shitstick protesters had any brains (they don't), they'll just listen to the news at home. It's cold and windy outside.

Wilson has been negotiating his exit package with the Department for at least a week now, to be effected upon release of the grand jury findings.  The Department wouldn't be negotiating with him if there was even a middling chance that the grand jury was going to hand down an indictment, because his job would be void - do not pass "GO", do not collect $200 - the moment the indictment was issued.

I have been wrong before though, and another part of me wouldn't be surprised if the grand jury decided to punt, and hand down the indictment in the hopes/whatever that Officer Wilson would be acquitted under the higher evidentiary standard of a criminal trial, thus theoretically diffusing the immediate issue of the primed rioters/looters running the streets.

If there is no indictment then there will be continued riots/looting and so-called protests. If there is an indictment handed down, then there will be continued riots/looting and protests.

A couple of predictions:

1) No matter what the decision, those who believe the officer is guilty, upon hearing the verdict, are by their very nature too stupid to understand the English language and will have to have someone explain it to them in the most simple of terms before they react, and

2) the fire department will be very busy tonight.

When the occupiers got a whooping I laughed. It was in general for hippy misbehavior.
But Occupiers didn't riot, loot, burn or threaten to kill wives and family of cops...

When the hammer falls down here, it will come down HARD.

The protestors outnumber the cops, and are acting in a self assured, threatening way. This is a situation that could escalate quickly.

Most people don't know this but when the Guard is called out for this kind of duty they typically do not call on local units to do the riot duty. It keeps anyone from being influenced for or against the protesters as much as possible and when the time comes to open that can of whoop ass the troops are not as likely to be upset at having to beat some asshole as opposed to hitting Miss Martha the sixth grade spelling teacher .
