Poor Stupid DUmmy Pam Dawson Spins A Weak Wal Mart Bouncy

[GOBUCKS]

An item of faith at the DUmp is that self-checkout lanes destroy jobs for DUmmies, many of whom dream of a checkout career.
 
Our old friend and former Top DUmmy Pam Dawson comes out of nowhere to spin a bouncy tale for some DUmp cred.

As usual, she just cannot make it work.

self-check out lanes . Bad business and takes away jobs at the same time creates more work for some

30 minute before game time and discovered I needed a couple ingredients for my home made salsa and some milk and things for breakfast.

I run to the neighborhood market (Wal Mart) because it is just a few blocks from my house and faster - well in theory it is supposed to be faster.

There was only 1 checker and she had a pretty large line. I just had a few things so I thought okay, I will try out the self check out lane. Big mistake. Rang up milk and put it on the sacking area and the stupid machine started wigging out because it wasn't in a sack. It wouldn't let me continue my purchase until an employee came to make sure I wasn't trying to sneak a gallon of milk. Next up a couple of limes. The produce link did not work right so again the employee had to come over and punch in a key to start it up again. Scanned some more things and then my next item a jar of jelly did not go into the sack, the sacks were sticking together and it fell between the sacks but it was still on the bagging weight area. Machine locked up again until the lady came back over. After that she just finished ringing my last two produce items. It was a waste of my time and a waste of her time. She might as well have run the register, it would have been faster for both of us. I thanked her profusely for her time and help.

I very much dislike the self check out lanes.

3. I was interested to read that you had so much trouble with the self-check-out at Walmart. I use

the self-check-out both at Walmart and at Kroger and rarely have had any problems. Usually it's just convenient.

DUmmy Louisiananumbers may not realize how stupid Pam is. She has trouble making a garden hose work.


But anyway, Pam tries walking it back a little further.

and not just sit in in the bagging area. We never use a bag for milk

Part of it was computer error

in any case I was not impressed. I would rather have a human being to work with.

I like the pleasantries, the human aspect

These things are designed so that any idiot can operate one by following simple onscreen instructions.  I guess they didn't consider unsupervised morons like Pam giving it a shot.

Self checkout is the way to go. I can get through a self checkout kiosk in maybe half the time it would take going through a line manned by a register jockey.

Faster for me. I even have all the produce shortcut codes memorized. I can check out in half the time and there's never a line. I took the time to learn how it worked by reading the display. Now, I often push Spanish before starting, so I can watch the other shoppers glare at me when the thing speaks to me in Spanish.

There's a WalMart SuperCenter almost within walking distance of Pam's little starter home up there in northeast Wichita.

Pam is there several times a week.

As we've learned earlier, Pam is the victim of an unfortunate genetic accident, kind of a chromosomal train wreck, so we shouldn't laugh.

But come on, she's such an inept pathological liar she's hilarious.

And there's never been a Top DUmmy that had all the little beasties present and properly aligned in his cell nuclei.

The only hitch that I've ever encountered with the self checkout machines is when I buy booze and all it takes to clear it up is having someone come over and check my ID.  I should add here that I have an ID--you guessed it…I'm white.

The machine doesn't care if you put your stuff in a bag or not--only that you set it down in the bagging area.  And even if it's something light like a greeting card that the machine doesn't register when you set it down in the bagging area, the machine notices and asks if you'd prefer not to bag the item…tap the screen in accord and carry on.  Unless you're a DUmmy.

I don't know.  Our SuperWally put in self-checkouts awhile back and the only time I used it (them) it sucked and not all that different from this tale of woe.....

I gave up on this bouncy when she said there was only one person working as a checker.  Yeah right.

The one time I used it, there was only one lady supervising the self checkout corral they had.  She was running around like that proverbial headless chicken, but she seemed very competent.  Everybody checking out was having problems.  As that was 4-5months ago, I would guess they've worked some things out by now.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I don't go to Walmart nearest me very often, it always is swamped.

I think someone up-thread misinterpreted what I meant.  There may be only one self-checkout line, but there are always apparently at least two "manned" stations open, at least at the one nearest to me.  A buddy of mine works the overnight shift, and routinely buys his groceries there at 2-3-4 in the morning. He has told me that there are always several regular checkout lanes open.  Just wanted to clarify.

For some reason, the Wal-Mart over here has had self-checkout lanes installed for a couple of years but had them turned off.  They finally turned them on in the last 12 months.

Maybe that's because (generally speaking) their human cashiers suck.

I have been at K Mart more than once when they only had one line open, but I think they're going to be next to see more mass closings. 

I've also been at Kroger and County Market and seen only one line open.

On a side note, our local mall lost J C Penney's earlier this year, and now they announced that Sear's will be closing.

What a lying idiot. I go to the Walk-Mart Neighborhood market as well, ALL the time. Super fast. The Lazy Susan that holds the bags? The entire damn thing is on a pressure plate. If you put it in the area at all, it'll register the weight. Between the bags, there's a shelf up top. I put all kinds of shit on it, beer, cokes, etc. They all register. If this did happen, her stupid ass probably put the milk on the damn floor.

I loathe the self checkout lanes. At the local Wal Mart, it is a self check out corral, the terminals are in a rectangle. F that. I avoid it. I want the cashiers to work.
