MMMMM, this may have some connection  with the fad of the late 20- late 50's.   

It seemed that most bathrooms I entered as a little girl had these bright pink bags hung over the shower head  with a long tube and at the end some kind of device with lots of holes and only twice the size of a pencil.  When I asked what is that I was told it was an adult cleaning device.

To my horror in school I finally found out that these were Enema  Bags .  Then I found out the problems with holding the bag too high on a patient--------.  HA, want to hear a patent  yell, just increase the height by a foot or more.

Why and how these cleaning devices came about I suspect that after the wars without antibiotics the returning GI'S, and the woman they left behind overseas soon to die of any number of STD'S -----The old shake up a bottle of coke just was not working.
