Rented a very small house in Va, for $450.00 a month. I should have known that the rent was too little and wonder why.
The breaker box was way off bad, put in in perhaps 1950. Plumbing was ok no problem but only enough hot water for a 6 minute shower.
No way to put in a window air conditioner and the TV could not be used if the lights were on in the rest of the house.
In the front yard there was a huge tree, perhaps 50 years old. A grand old tree that had spread out over the house and into the street.
The landlord was a grouchy old Lawyer that owned about 30 homes on the street and
knew ever member of the town inspectors or those on the zoning commission.
About 3 months after moving in and questioning him about the electrical system and him refusing to take my calls, KAMA got the old bastard.
Storm came up and somehow lightening went from the ground to the air and killed that big beautiful tree. ---------Late at night asleep and the boom left not only a blue light in the house but electricity left our hair standing on end. Until that time I had no idea that that lightening could come up from the ground to met that in the air.
Next day the tree that showed no damage began to loose its leaves, branches were beginning to break off and fall off.
I called the landlord to tell him about his tree and he became angry over why I was bothering him about this small thing. Before I hang up on the SOB I mentioned that some branches were over the street and for one to fall and harm some one he would have a law suit.
Have no idea what happened to the landlord, we gave up the security deposit and ran for the hills.
