*sighs*  Threads like this make me sad to be moving back to the States.

I'm going to miss living in a place where you walk into McDonalds, and they go out of their way to make you feel like the most important person in the world.
Can you tell me the location of that MacDonalds?

Just about any in Japan.  At the nearby mall, there is a ramen place in the food court with some guy in his 60's maybe he is so enthusiastic about his job it just blows your mind.

Whether or not the Japanese hate their jobs, you'd never know it.  It's just not a part of their culture to show their discontent.

The Texas Roadhouse in Sherman, TX was pretty good. Good food, good service, etc. Personally, I'm coming to loathe ALL of these chain restaurants. There is little consistency between them and I honestly think that we, as a society, are merely becoming drones of the chain store market. Restaurants have lost their individuality. The one of a kind restaurants are almost dinosaurs in this day and age. Take Olive Garden, for example. Sure, they have decent food, but lines are inordinately long, the restaurants aren't SO GOOD that I'm willing to wait more than a few minutes, etc. Most of the chains are like that. Living in Denison, my choice of restaurants is pretty limited,  but I've found a couple of jewels buried around the area. One is in Gainesville, a BBQ buffet (one of a kind and I suspect that it used to be an old Underwoods BBQ) Another is in Denison, called, "Las Brisas", a small mexican restaurant. It's probably the BEST Mexican place in the Texoma area. Finally, Huck's Catfish is AWESOME!! Service has always been good, the food is even better and prices are pretty reasonable. Finally, all I can say is, "SCREW those chain restaurants!!" I LIKE the individuality of the sole proprietorship restaurants.

Around here the Applebys can be hit or miss. There is one in Papliion that everytime we went there as a group to eat, one of the guys would order ribs and they would jack it up everytime and the rest of us got good food. The one on Dodge street in Omaha near the Best Buy I used to work is good and so is the one in Council Bluffs.

The Chilis next door to the Applebys in Omaha seems to me to be an imitation and the food is ok but I'm not making the effort to go there since the menu is about the same as Applebys . The Golden Corral in Bellevue is good and the Craker Barrel is better then any of them.

You can leave me out of your "y'all".  I have spoke many times about the joys of the Awful House.  I eat there at least once a week.

We mostly have locally owned Italian places here but a couple of chain places too.  Texas Roadhouse here is pretty good food, GREAT service!  Appleby's disgusting food, worse service.  Eat N Park generic American food, pretty good service.  Quaker Steak and Lube, incredible food, pretty good service.

If you love wings and are anywhere near Pittsburgh you have to try Quaker Steak and Lube!

LOVEJOY, Ga. —  A man with a shellfish allergy is dead after eating an entree with crab at a restaurant.

An autopsy Monday confirmed that 35-year-old Rodney Hawkins went into anaphylactic shock and died after eating the dish at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Lovejoy last week.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said Hawkins had ordered a chicken dish that contained no shellfish but was served another chicken dish that contained crab.

But Rick Johnson, spokesman for the Marvyille, Tenn.-based Ruby Tuesday company, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the server's order pad and the kitchen ticket indicate that Hawkins ordered the Chicken Oscar, a dish with crab meat.

Johnson called the situation "tragic" and expressed condolences for Hawkins' family.

Now that's bad service.

They are opening a new Chili's near my apartment. I've never been there.

Applebee's isn't bad.

They are good places to have a drink or two and enjoy some appetizers.  Chili's makes some good burgers.  Applebee's has some good stuff too.  They are a nice place to relax a bit and share good company.

the burgers are good.. and the chicken tacos are awesome..

all you Chili's haters ... are just poopy heads.  :bawl:

The last time I went to Chili's, I walked out because a waiter hadn't been to my table for 15 minutes after I was seated.

Why, oh why do bad things happen to good people?   :bawl:

I used to ride my bike on the LBJ freeway & Centerville. (Of course the freeway was still under construction then).

The nearest Waffle House for me, which I THINK of as an icon of the restaurant industry, is in McKinney. I didn't discover Waffle Houses until after I got stationed in Norfolk, Va. They weren't in Texas back in '75 or before.

Right now "Plaza Aztica" is good, but I don't knoww how far they have spread. Chilli's, etal, except Bennigan's, all excell at BLAND .  Outback Steakhouse has good beef. P'aza has GREAT Margaritas

Waffel House? They are either very good or awful. But only for breakfast.

Carlos Murphy's was the best of the formula restaurants.
