Why does Obama say his first, solemn duty is to protect American people?

He just said it again.

His first and sworn duty is to protect and defend the Constitution.

That is his sworn oath. Protect and defend the Constitution.

<<<doesn't think the Big Zero's doing much of a job protecting either the Constitution or the American people.

1. What Constitution?

Maybe he's just acknowledging the obvious and moving on to solemn duty #2?

Quote

2. Because - oddly - he has no duties named as such in the Constitution

The oath is "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,"

As the Constitution is there for the protection of all American people surely he can legitimately claim that their protection is a duty?

5. he's not the only one who says it.

IIRC, Bush said it too.

It seems they use this as deflection from their obligation to defend the freedoms provided to us under the Constitution; as a way to allow war making (MIC).

8. yep.

And it was an issue then, especially during the Iraq war. I remember people here having strong opinions with that.

17. I don't see defense of the Constitution..

...which guarantees our most precious liberties as nit picking.

You do?

6. The President has many responsibilities.

In a nation where the people are ostensibly in charge of selecting their own government, "the American People" are among the responsibilities of the President. The Constitution is a document that is all about the people and their importance in our system of government. In protecting them, the President is also protecting and defending the Constitution.

I'm surprised that is not obvious to a student of America.

Beginning with the first sentence of the Preamble, the word "people" occurs 9 times in the document, all in very important places in that document.

16. yep

although I WILL give Obama the benefit of the doubt and think it might be possible that he has simply adopted the rhetoric crafted by Bushco.

But he is wrong, and it is harmful to continue to say this.

10. It irks me as much as when the Dim Son said it

You're 100% correct: The President's job is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. Without the Constitution, there is no United States of America, or at least there is no country described in the Constitution as the United States of America. When Presidents get confused on this point - either by chance or design - all kinds of mischief ensues, because the President thinks he's protecting the American people. And that's not his job, first or last, solemn or casual.

I like how even what comes out of Obama's mouth is Bush's Fault (tm)

So much for 'constitutional scholar' and 'the smartest administration ever', right ?

Hey Judy, two things to answer your question.  No.1: PrezBO doesn't believe in what the Constitution upholds.  No. 2:  In case you haven't figured it out yet, PrezBO lies about everything.  Like the old saying goes "The truth ain't in him".
In battle you have to show no mercy for mercy comes after the war when you still have the freedom to ask for it.

3. why are you nit picking?

It wouldn't be too far fetched of an idea to imagine Judy is a walking lice metroplis, when you consider her living conditions and personal appearance.  The sheer volume of nits that might be holed up in the seven layers of coats she wears boggles the mind.  Then there are the nits that have managed to cling to the prime nit real estate region of her dingy scalp, although most self-respecting nits wouldn't be caught dead inhabiting the scalp of someone who cuts their hair with a weed whacker.

For the sake of humanity, let's hope grasswipe does a better job of picking her nits than she does at baking pies:

What's with the horrible haircuts at the DUmp?  Battlehymn's right, that's a weed whacker job up there.  And then there's mopinko, who also uses a weed whacker, but leaves a frizzy mullet in the back, that makes my neck itch just looking at it.

Dear Leader does both at the same time: He protects people FROM the Constitution. You know, since it's an outdated documents written by a bunch of old, dead, racist, bigoted, homophobic, white guys. And it tells what the gov't CAN'T do, and that's no good for liberalism. So you should be glad he protects the American people from that evil Constitution.

Now go bake a pie and leave the heavy lifting to those who can. And don't forget to vote the way in which they commanded you.

Oh now; one should cut the pie-and-jam primitive some slack.

After all, she was a great-great-grandmother at the tender age of circa 60 years.....and if one figures it out, that's one generation every twelve years.  She was already barefoot and pregnant when just out of the sixth grade, and a grandmother already at one-score-and-four.

Right now, she's quibbling with her guardians--her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren--about nursing homes.  They think she should join her two elderly aunts, making it a jolly threesome in that nursing home, but Judy's resisting.

For social activities, her aunts' nursing home has after-supper sing-alongs on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Judy grasswire wants to go to a home where they have bingo three times a week instead.

I don't know about your idea of a boss/president but mine is that they bring people together for the greater good and do not put up with drama.  It seems you are very happy that Obama "loves" to cause drama and just make the American taxpayers unhappy.

It was a few years ago when grasswipe Judy Smith, up there on the seedy fringes of Portland, casually mentioned having great-great-grandchildren.

Given the proclivities of the grasswipe clan, another generation should be popping out any day now.

I wonder if the Guinness world record book people are aware.

Probably not. It's more likely something carried on under the radar, like cockfighting.
