To make it seem not so obvious, they are claiming that the emails of 6 others have been lost too.
Only the six that were involved in the illegal scrutiny of conservative and religious organizations.  No others, mind you.  Just those six people.  One of them who happened to visit the White House on a regular basis according to visitor logs.

Did Lerner's computer crash or was a server lost? Nope, just more lies from the Obama Regime.
An individual employee's computer is irrelevant when it comes to emails that are sent/received within and without an organization.  Everything is copied and stored... everything.

The IRS is either breaking the law or has the worst IT department on the planet.

There is only one conclusion.  Whatever was deleted had to implicate some pretty important people involved in a crime.

If the emails were deleted from the IRS's mail servers, that would be a violation of multiple federal laws regarding information storage.  A backup, or multiple backups, should exist somewhere.  If they're on tapes, it's a matter of reconciling the tape library and backup schedule with the physical tapes.

I can't imagine the IRS being so inefficient as to be manually cycling tape backups on a weekly basis for their email servers, especially with the Sarbanes-Oxley requirements on data retention that have been in place since Enron.  My company uses network-attached storage to back up all their data.  The last time I saw a tape backup machine at work was the one I removed in 2012 that stored US/UK payroll, and I was damned glad to be rid of the ****ing thing.

Why Darrell Issa just asked the IRS to hand over a hard drive

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Tuesday issued a subpoena to the Internal Revenue Service, ordering the agency to turn over the hard drive they claim is responsible for wiping out two years of critical email communications.

Issa has dramatically widened his probe into the IRS after the agency announced last week that it had lost the emails, which may have provided information about an IRS policy of targeting for extra scrutiny and delay many conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.

Issa is not only seeking emails, but wants equipment, “communication devices,” printed documents and just about anything else related to former IRS official Lois Lerner, who has refused to testify before Congress and who the GOP believes is a central player in the targeting scheme.
Washington Examiner

That's quite a list.

have the DUmp had their say about this?  Are they as in absolute shock as the rest of America that one of the largest organizations loses emails?

If the IRS can lose emails, does that mean I can email the IRS on my next audit, tell them to GFY, and still get my refund?   :-)

Issa said this morning, that if he has to, he'll wait for a new AG to prosecute this case, but that it's going to happen.

I bet if they weren't so intimidated, a lot more employees would come forward and spill the beans.  Maybe it will have to wait for a new administration.

Anyone coming forward would likely be prosecuted for leaking information. The Obama Regime has prosecuted more cases than any other administration.

Issa's making the assumption that he'll survive the Oministration.

Probably goes to the highest level, why they're taking such extraordinary measures. Nixon was nothing next to this, absolutely nothing. I don't think there's anything that would get Obama to resign. He's shameless.

IRS contracted with email archiving company in 2005

By Thomas Lifson
Is that a smoking gun  I smell?  It turns out the IRS contracted with a company that provides email backup services starting in 2005.  This first came to light in the Twitter feed of moregenr, who noticed that the IRS appears on the client list of email  archiving service provider Sonasoft.

What lies will they tell now? The contract expired?

So my four person company has a better backup system than the IRS ?

Each of our computers houses the "PST" file that contains all emails.
Our onsite server keeps an archive file of emails over six months.
This server has three backups, an external hard drive, an online backup, an additional online backup that backs up in real time (every 5 or 10 minutes).
We use an MS Exchange Server company that is housed 30 miles from our company location which is backed up on a regular schedule.
In addition to all that, I personally create a disk image of each client computer every three to four months in case of a crash or virus.

Yes, I'm anal but we are better at this than the IRS ???  :rotf:

The IRS isn't allowed much storage space. The NSA needs all the spare hard drives they can get for storing our phone calls and emails.

I could destroy my company cell phone and laptop, and I bet you dollars to doughnuts the emails I sent AND received on either one are all retrievable for the asking of my IT department.

But the IRS can't come up with them?

I mean, I know they think we're idiots, but this is like catching a six-year old in a lie.  They KNOW they've been caught, yet they still insist on pushing the lie, hoping you'll at some point believe them and that their transgression (and the lies) will all just go away.

Sorry, doesn't work in my house either.

There are so many it's hard to keep up---what they're counting on. They need to exit stage right. We all need to be sure that the Nov elections net a bunch of Republicans, even if they're only RINO'S. Harry Reid needs to go--maybe that impeachment thing might be possible then.
