Looking for old-fashioned metal gate latch with vertical tension rod that slips into a horseshoe bracket on the gate post. Something my clever dogs can't open. I actually have one such device on the back gate but need another for the front. Not asking anyone to do my research for me - I've been at that for hours! - but maybe someone will already know where one's to be found and will give me a clue. Just a little hint. Anything, a crumb even...

One of the major indulgences I awarded myself when I first bought this 100-yr-old fixer was the type of wire 'rainbow' or scallop top wire fencing popular when it was first built. Had to find the one company left that still made the stuff, then it was on special order when they had enough demand to justify it; now they don't make it anymore. I could put some kind of modern looking gadget on there but it would look horrible. I'm not persnicketty about much, at least according to my own perception! but I am about period compatibility in design. I once saw a picture of a renovated Vic that had been made ultra modern inside, and it still hurts my eyes.

Uh oh.

7. Good grief - for once I'm more concerned about your problems than mine.

Now you must let us know how you are ASAP.

BTW, I've tried Google too. But just because I couldn't find it doesn't mean nobody else can. And I'll keep trying.

8. Thanks, I'm hanging in there. :-)

Google as each with pics:

Was told after a follow up visit to check into ER because crappy insurance wouldn't cover this otherwise.

Waiting for a surgical slot, infection at surgical site-- brain aneurism treated on May 20, successfully except for this, all at Stanford Hospital neurology dept., so in good hands, thanks!

I'm confused however.  Concerned, yes, of course, but confused too.

What is this about "crappy insurance?"

Desk-sitting governmental employees have "crappy insurance"?

But even more so, if one needs something medical done, if it's imperative, one should go ahead and have it done, and to Hell whether or not insurance covers it.

This is disturbing, this tendency to make medical decisions based upon whether or not insurance will cover it, rather than strictly upon medical grounds.

So many lies.

Well, what bothers me is Skippy's attitude, and alas it's a pretty common attitude; "if insurance won't pay for it, I won't have it done, even though it's necessary."

The more common examples are of where primitives say "well, because my insurance won't cover dental costs, I'm going to let my teeth rot" or "well, because my insurance won't cover vision costs, I'm going to let my eyes go to Hell."

The primitives say that quite a bit.

It's scary; one can always find money, but one can't grow a new set of teeth or new eyes, or in Skippy's case, get a new brain.

How to pay for something can be figured out later; medical decisions should be based upon necessity, and necessity only.

Hey DUmmie, try Restoration Hardware.  It'll drain your bank account nicely too.

The thing that struck me about Skippy was, some guy is looking for a part, and he comes along and says "I dunno, but look at MEEEEEEEE!  I'm in the ER!!!!!"

I know what the irish primitive is looking for, and where it could more than likely get one.

Too bad I don't help out primitives.

Skippy is probably in the emergency room because he stuffed one of those CFL bulbs he worships up his ass, in an attempt to simulate his rectum having a good idea.

Waiting for a surgical slot, infection at surgical site--

Great news from Skippy! Let's hope it's one of those flesh-eating bacteria types, or at least an antibiotic-resistant model.

The Cleveland ward heeler will check out any day now, and they say good things come in threes.

The third could be a surprise suicide.

What a way to kick off the summer!!

Did you notice, though, the primitives forgot one of their own?

The mountain man primitive, the "ThomWV" primitive, who had part of his brain amputated a few years ago, isn't memorialized there.

And yet he was the High Priest of the Kennedy Cult on Skins's island.

Ah, so fleeting, fame!

Slightly disappointed :

When I read 'Skippy hanging in there', I was expecting a tale involving a length of rope, a short drop, and a sudden stop. Followed by text from a GBCW note he left behind.

Oh well. Maybe next time....

You'd think he would have excellent insurance. That was his last post, must be still in surgery.

As do I. I'm a big fan of old, rare house designs. ( I even have a Preservation Society plaque on the front of the house. ) - However, this primitive is on its own in its quest for a vertical latch.
