Eric Cantor LOSES Primary
« on: June 10, 2014, 07:43:52 PM »
So they are calling it now, Eric Cantor has lost his primary challenge.

You read that right.  Eric Cantor is done.

"I've seen enough, it's over. Sitting Majority Leader of the House, Rep. Eric Cantor (R), has lost his primary to Prof. Dave Brat (R) #VA07

— Dave Wasserman (@Redistrict) June 10, 2014"

The DUmmies didnt run a candidate so Brat will now run unopposed in the general election this year.

Ill update this when there is an actual story I can link to and not just tweets.

Update: As promised here is an AP article http://bigstory.ap.org/article/house-majority-leader-cantor-defeated-primary
Quote
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was defeated Tuesday by a little-known economics professor in Virginia's Republican primary, a stunning upset and major victory for the tea party.

So, any bets on if the GOP try for Amnesty after this one?

Any ideas about Cantor's opponent?  Is he right or left of him?

He has been called a "Tea Party" guy.
Here is a link to his campaign page where he says what hes about  http://davebratforcongress.com/about-dave/

I honestly dont know much about him other than he made Amnesty a central issue in this race

Well, this is an upset - heard Cantor was weakened, but I'm been hearing about these results at the DUmp today:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025077514

most of them don't know what they're talking about, as usual, including nadin:

and that is not a bad thing... I think

He is losing to a tea party crank that makes Cantor look rational if I remember correct though.

And I need to fix some things by the way, but you might like that. Ah minimum wage, always love the arguments.

According to this, Cantor is behind, but only half the precincts have been counted.

Quote
Early reports indicate that Brat will win Goochland County, Hanover County, Lousia County, and Chesterfield County. Just over half of the precincts have been counted. The results could quickly change.

This is the most remarkable upset that we have ever seen........simply stunning.

A member of the now-dead and irrelevant Tea Party that produced such useless people as Ted Cruz.

Man, talk about the Zombie Apocalypse!  The MSM-adjudicated dead Tea Party keeps hitting home runs! (I love to mix metaphors).

I hope this news makes Lindsay Graham piss in his pants and sweat like a race horse until all the primary votes are counted in S.C..

Yes and No.  Also what Free said.  They were never truely gone, they just were not needed in the cases where the Republican moved back to the Right and away from the establishment.  This is clearly not one of those cases.

I think this race was a much bigger referendum on Immigration rather than Tea Party vs Establishment.  If the Tea Party was as big as it was then Ghramnesty wouldnt be winning so big in his SC Primary.

In the last few days of this race Cantor was hit hard as a supporter of amnesty.  He was successfully branded as someone who wanted to push for amnesty.  I really think that was the biggest reason he lost, but we wont know for sure until we get some exit polling.

Carl Cameron and Bret Baier are discussing this and seem to think that Cantor will run a write-in campaign.

They also said it was nearly impossible.

I really doubt that Cantor will do anything after this.  Hes got almost no chance at a write-in campaign and its illegal in Virginia to be on a ballot when you lose a primary.

FOX is pretty much calling it now as well, any sort of immigration reform is totally dead.

Well, Cantor knew he was getting in trouble the last week or so, but doubled-down on his amnesty push, calling it "biblical".

Do you want to see the worst internal poll ever?:

This really does bring up the question of immigration.  I think there are 2 possibilities now

1. The GOP back away from it completely.  All talk of any sort of bill dies off now and wont be brought up again until the pandermonium of 2016.  This causes Obama to illegally declare groups of illegals legal and starts off one hell of a fight that might include a worse political backlash for Democrats this fall.  If Cantor goes down, what does that say for Dems in purplish areas?

2. The GOP shoot off their entire lower-half by going full bore with a massive amnesty push knowing they are all doomed anyways.  They cave entirely to Obama and in the process destroy the GOP.  Huge infighting starts and the GOP tears itself apart helping Dems maintain the Senate this year.  Some new conservative, more likely Libertarian, party then takes its place.

Either way the GOP is in for one hell of a ride over the next few years.

Don't forget, Obama promised to start acting on his own regarding immigration after the primaries are done. I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama do something by Friday.

Im banking more on Option 1 personally, though I do worry that the GOP is really that suicidal.  Obamas going to start acting on his own and the GOP need to use that this year as an attack.  Midterms are almost always more about who is angry, and a lawless administration drives up anger fast.

Its all just a guess but I would expect the most lawless administration in our history is going to do something extremely lawless in the next few weeks.

Sadly I think this means Boehner is sticking around for a long time...........

The Establishment just lost their "Next In Line" to the Speakership and with Boehner winning his primary hes going to run for Speaker next session.  He probably will find a way to cobble together enough votes to keep his job.  Maybe not, but I think hell find a way.
