Raw Story: Lindsey Graham and Eric Cantor expected to fend off Tea Party primary challengers

I'm seeing tweets that Graham has won his primary but no confirmations in the news.

Im banking more on Option 1 personally, though I do worry that the GOP is really that suicidal.  Obamas going to start acting on his own and the GOP need to use that this year as an attack.  Midterms are almost always more about who is angry, and a lawless administration drives up anger fast.

Its all just a guess but I would expect the most lawless administration in our history is going to do something extremely lawless in the next few weeks.

There were way too many issues that could have been used in 2012 as attacks but somebody lost them or ignored them.  :thatsright:

Sadly I think this means Boehner is sticking around for a long time...........

The Establishment just lost their "Next In Line" to the Speakership and with Boehner winning his primary hes going to run for Speaker next session.  He probably will find a way to cobble together enough votes to keep his job.  Maybe not, but I think hell find a way.
Sadly, you may be right.  I saw some headline prognosticating earlier today saying that he was on his way out as Speaker.

Hmmm....wonder if this would affect a write in campaign???

His name wouldn't be on the ballot, people would have to write it in.

Quote
Virginia Code 24.2-520 : A candidate who loses a primary shall be prohibited from having his name on a general election ballot.

Considering that a write-in campaign is where the scumbag in question's name ISN'T on the ballot, but being written in by the voter, that law wouldn't prevent Comrade Cantor from resorting to this particular dirty trick.

Object wouldn't be for him to WIN, but to make sure that the Republican candidate LOSES. Believe me, the establishment RINOs would much prefer a Democrat to win the seat, than for someone who won't "play ball" to have it. (This is how Comrade Hickenlooper became Governor of Colorado.)

Brat was out spent 22 to 1.

He (Brat) made it his mission to meet the people, shake hands and talk about more than just immigration.

He is a free market, states rights, small government guy.

A Christian as well as a professor of economics and 'ethics'.

 How do I know?

I am in his district and have followed his campaign from day one.

Cantor .. like the rest of the 'entrenched' rinos took for granted that the position was eternally theirs.

Lots of money, smear ads and downright lying to your constituents failed Cantor.

He has been called a "Tea Party" guy.
Here is a link to his campaign page where he says what hes about  http://davebratforcongress.com/about-dave/

I honestly dont know much about him other than he made Amnesty a central issue in this race

Not bad for a nationally despised, dead movement, huh?

....and I'm still stuck with the Lindsay Graham cracker.

Tim Scott will be unopposed as will be several other republican U.S. Representatives.....and that includes my rep and Trey Gowdy.  :yahoo: Unfortunately democrat Jim Clyburn will be returning to Washington but one bad apple in the bunch at too bad.

At my polling place yesterday when I voted, I was number 79 to vote republican and the democrat list had 23 names. My county has come a long way from 1980 when we held the first republican party meeting in this county in over a 100 years. The list of people seeking democrat nominations(ballot) for local, state and federal office was very short.....republican list was very long  :-)

There were 7 people at that first republican party meeting, me, the X-wife, my daddy and 4 other people. The democrats laughed at us. When the primary was held that June, we could only open 7 polling places out of 20 something and the only names on the ballot was Ronald Reagan and somebody plus old Strom Thurmond unopposed. We had a good turnout even though the democrat primary determined all our local political offices. Now when the local democrat party meets there is only a handful of people brave enough to be seen with the misfits that control it now....a crazy black woman, a transgender guy and few other queer dudes. :rotf:

In 1980 I would never have believed this result was even remotely possible. :-)

What a shocker that was.  Thanks for mrclose for the report from the district.  These guys think they have the job forever, and I guess Cantor didn't do much constituency work.  No townhalls, etc.  People do not like being ignored.

Chaos erupts at Cantor’s election night headquarters after his departure

As if the political drama were not powerful enough, chaos erupted at election night headquarters shortly after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor conceded his stunning defeat to tea party-backed conservative David Brat.

Cantor addressed his supporters for about four minutes at a suburban Richmond hotel ballroom, then boarded an SUV without taking questions from reporters scurrying after him.

Then it got really rambunctious. In the room of downcast Cantor allies, a new energy suddenly erupted — but not the kind they wanted on election night. A group of immigration activists stormed the ballroom, screaming and waving a flag. “What do we want? Immigration reform! When do we want it? Now!”

A few Cantor supporters tried to block the protesters’ entrance into the ballroom, and pushing and shoving ensued.

There is a report that Cantor won't run a write-in campaign.

No write-in bid for Cantor

After losing his primary, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will not run as a write-in candidate in November, according to two Republicans close to him. The Republicans were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive internal talks.

Between this and the special elections in Florida and elsewhere, this really is shaping up to be a serious beat down for the Democrats.

The GOP may not take the Senate, but it's gonna be close.

I actually think this was a bigger issue in this race than immigration. Cantor had taken his voters for granted and assumed that they would just line up and follow him.  Thats what DUmmies do, not us.
When your rep stops listening to you there is only one thing to do, throw the bum out.  Its pretty clear thats what happened last night.  The people thought Cantor had become to much of a washington insider and less of "their guy" so they threw him out.  THat should be a clear warning to the rest of the GOP, listen to the base or get thrown out.
Disclaimer: Anytime I refer to a DUmmie or ****tarded Liberal in any term that may be considered “smart” or "brilliant" it should be read with the most sarcasm you possibly can muster.

I was hoping, nay praying, that he would be forced into a runoff between himself and a true conservative...it didn't happen.  :argh:

I don't know what I'm going to do but I ain't voting for him again.

Cantor actually outspent Brat, especially in the last month or two. You're exactly right -- Cantor, like all professional politicians, tend to forget where they came from. Something tells me the rest of the f'n RINOs will sit up and smell the coffee now.

Well, I'm not sure about Boehner - the Brat upset was a defeat for the GOPe, and Cantor was a big fish in that pond. I think he *probably* won't even run again for Speaker.

It's much easier to take a representative out in a primary than a senator - Linda had too many opponents, so the anti-Graham vote was unable to coalesce around a single candidate.

Obama has been threatening amnesty by EO for the last year, he shouldn't go there, but he is so out of touch and so dictorial he may try it.

Boner still doesn't get it:

Quote
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told his Republican colleagues on Wednesday that he would seek the speakership in 2014, during the same meeting in which ousted House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) told the Republican conference that he would resign his leadership post.

Two House GOP members recounted Boehner's statement after the Wednesday meeting.

"Boehner said he was definitely running for speaker next year," Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) told reporters. "He made that quite clear. That was a little bit of a surprise."

Well, I usually don't count TPM as a very good source, but those quotes were named, so I bet Boehner really said he was going to try to keep his job.

I think he's weakened greatly and really isn't suited to the job. Boehner is not a good spokesman or leader.
