WOW! Just did the math! I have been a member of DU for over 10 years!

 I came on board Sat Jul 26, 2003, at 08:55 PM CDT. A College teacher told me about the site.
 
I was at first Lady Freedom. But something happened with the upgrade and I resigned in as Lady Freedom Returns.
 A lot has happen in that 10 years. From being a bright eyed college student to finding out what kind of hardships many go through in this country. I am now on an up swing.
 
Thanks to a DES case worker knowing someone in the Dept of Education I can start making a hardship payment plan. I pay at less $5 a month for the next 6 months and I will be able to get my Transcripts!
 
My place will be ready on Jan. 29th. I started work on the 24th. of this month. I also have a line on a second job as a shot girt two nights a week.
 
Have to admit, I never saw such results coming so fast! Thank you all for the good Vibs! It is the only thing I can think of causing such good things!
 
I know others have many a story of how things have change for them over the time they have been on DU and I hope many will post their stories here!

IIRC, she tried out for a similar job some time back, when all this new saga was just beginning.

I try to help, I'm too stupid to keep my yap shut, but it seems to me you denizens of the island are a bit nervous. I worked with (after I'd been cut loose from the island of course) a mole for a couple of years. We both knew I was too stupid and aggressive. I needed a team mate and this human is extraordinary.

Quite frankly, It does not need me but it always asks, and fortunately, always rejects my advise.

I figure that is what keeps it in business.

More then likely they don't--her dumbass just had to show her how to walk through the process of deferring or getting a hardship on the loan--something she could have done herself with a phone call and then use of their fax machine, scanner, and/or email for any requested documentation to the hardship.

Who wants to bet she doesn't even make the 5 bucks a month payment after she gets her hands on those transcripts?

As for the other, still pisses me off. You don't make a move and plan on the taxpayers to get you on your feet. You get on your feet, plan your move, and THEN make the move. I did this as a single woman too in my 20's--moved 2000 miles away to A JOB, AN APARTMENT, My FIANCEE, etc--without taxpayers assistance and his financial assistance was minimal. I would bet I was far more green then her in those days and still managed to do it without burdening the taxpayers of the country. And I was flexible with the plan changing if I could not gain employment to the place I was moving to but thankfully that was not an issue. And she's got all the room in the world for flexibility. I have kids rooted in a community now--what I wouldn't give for that kind of flexibility now as I have restarted my career over the last few years. But no...she's got a dream and the rest of us must fund it after the move is made instead of her showing some delayed gratification and self-control and SAVING for that move on her own. Hell, even if she didn't have a job, she could have easily put away a couple thousand bucks and probably even unearned tax money on her return and moved in the spring and just rented a room and hit the trail for work and at least got a similar job initially. There was ZERO reason for taxpayers to fund this if she had just waited her big hind end for the right opportunity based on her own savings and planning to move there on her own dime. This was no emergency that required assistance; this was chosen destitution. ****ing leech!

This is what really got to me too.  I couldn't wrap my head around someone "choosing" to be homeless over having a roof and a job.  Just the fear of living on the streets alone would have kept me at my sister's and working hard to save my money before making a move like that.  Expecting to get charity and government hand outs to help also would have never entered the planning stage of such a move.

Few jobs unless it is in a company that you are paid for as salary requires College Transcript's .  Some have workers come in, learn the trade and they make their way up to Salary and good money.  Some supervisors have a 10 grade education but can run their area top notch and earn their keep.

Most company's do not even require transcripts for a GED or high school diploma for the bottom of the barrel employee's that start as minimum wage floor sweepers and work their way up.

So why would this woman need any school transcript if she took a minimum wage job in a Pickle Factory. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

I think my experience is typical. The only time I have needed my transcripts is when I've applied to colleges. Not one employer has asked to see them.
