I think DUmmies like LFR, LocoNuts, and many others should have a DU self-delete button for THEMSELVES.

My thoughts exactly.  As a single mom, I never even considered the possibility of getting government assistance, but I probably could have.  Nope, I went out and got a second job, sometimes working from 7 am through midnight. 

I did, however, receive the "earned income credit" bonus on my tax returns for three years straight and wondered how in the heck I was getting back more than I ever paid in.  I certainly didn't complain back then but now I know what that was all about.  I'm surprised Amber hasn't tried to have a child - she'd be on the gravy train.  But I guess that would involve a man and I'm not sure one could, well, you know.

If the American dream is to be a ward of the state, I don't want anything to do with it. In my day the American dream was to work hard and enjoy the fruits of your labor, not sit on your ass waiting for food stamps and section eight housing.

I agree.  Even if such a program exists, there is no way that she qualifies for it, especially during winter when the homeless population in Southwestern cities like Tucson skyrockets.  I can see her scoring some sort of long-term halfway house situation where she and a bunch of other bums would be required to do a certain amount of work to earn their keep, but no way is she moving into a furnished fully appointed apartment.
