Amazing how lonely mental health problems are...
Many of you here are thankfully doing much better or are at least in remission. But I'm sure you can relate if you think back to your worst points, how lonely mental health issues are. It certainly doesn't help that I have no friends in real life and don't socialite at all.

It seems to me that LocoNuts might be well served to stop dwelling on how miserable he is and has been, realize that perhaps he brings this on himself, and then do stuff that will change his attititude and behavior;  move out of his mom's house, get a job, get a life, make friends, etc.

But no, he just continues to do the same thing over and over.  And his DUmmy counterparts support him in this.

For example

Even if it is on a message board. You have friends here. Hang in there. The bad times pass and it gets better. This time of year is often difficult with the cold and the dark.

No one over there ever tells him to grow a pair and move out, just hang in there with his DUmmy buddies who encourage his repeated failures.
This too shall pass.

Even his DUmp friends want to keep their distance from him......can't blame them either.

I made a trip over to the DUmmies' mental health board.  It seems like Loconuts has started half the threads there, all saying pretty much the same thing.

He's trapped in his own head and doesn't know how to get out.

He needs to go into a hospitalized twelve step program for at least a month and then into a supervised adult half way house.

He needs a strict schedule of sunlight, exercise, regular nutritional meals, vitamins, group therapy and doing some volunteer work.

He reminds me of a child that was always catered to and sheltered by his parents.   He wasn't allowed to grow up.

Great advice!  But that would actually involve doing something besides sitting behind his computer begging for sympathy.

He has a thread about his dad.  It sounds like they are co-dependent on each other.  His parents are never going to boot him out, and probably make excuses for him.  That's why I mentioned a 12 step program.  His parents need it as much as he does.

Loconuts has posted about CC before, so I know he reads here.

Loco, most of us here would root for you, if you tried.  The thing is you don't.  It's 2013.  I have to assume you have some interest in life that doesn't involve either wanking off to German porn or whining on DU.  The internet is just crawling with people that want to link up with other people with similar interests.  Are all of these people going to be your friends?  No, but at least you would get the chance to meet them.

Two things, though.  No politics, find something that is apolitical and keep your trap shut about politics, most people don't really care.  Also, don't go out acting like a sniveling needy little douchebag, though I think I may as well say, don't act like yourself, but you can at least try.

LocoNuts, if you really want to escape the hellish existence you lead, you have to ignore the touchy-feely, sob sister advice that some around here try to offer.

Your life is an abject failure, and there is no possibility it will get better. In fact, when your parents pass away, as they inevitably will, your life will become orders of magnitude worse than it is now.

There is a two-step approach you can follow to make things better.  First, you need to give yourself over completely to alcohol. Drinking will deaden the awful pain of your life, and allow you to take the second step. The second step is to end it all while under the heavy influence of alcohol.

Remember Deadstone. The other DUmmies couldn't stand the jerk until he killed himself. Now he's a DUmp icon. You could become one, too.

It's critical that throughout this process you continue to post several times a day at the DUmp. We enjoy your pathetic posts and will continue to offer advice. Your posts at the DUmp are only thing on earth that you've ever done well.

He should also study the primitive that was found dead at his computer in his mother's basement, while still logged into his DU account.  I can't remember that primitive's name at the moment, but that always makes me laugh.  What a way to go!

3. Yes, it is, yet loneliness seems an equiterminal outcome of different processes.

1) Mental illness, just like other illnesses, is something that is experienced at a very personal level. There is an inherent loneliness that is a component of all illness. The personal experience of it can never be fully shared even if that sharing is desired. That isn't so much pathological as it is the nature of individuality. It can be painful to know that no one 'gets it'.

2) The turning away from activities that facilitate friend making and socializing may be characteristic of some mental illness.

3) The inability to maintain relationships even though they are desired may also be characteristic of some mental illness (I have been assigned such a diagnosis).

4) Focusing on and magnifying intolerance of any attribute of life, including loneliness may be characteristic of some mental illness.

5) Loneliness may emerge from abandonment/isolation by others upon learning of your or my mental illness. That IS NOT a symptom of mental illness but rather the proper role of the emotion of loneliness, brought about by understanding the loss of others from your life. The others' behavior is likely a symptom of his/her/their acculturation into stigmatized beliefs/misunderstanding that lead them to the defensive behavior of shunning the mentally ill.

Sorting all this out into a relevant manageable bit might be a project objective for therapy.

What's this "equiterminal outcome of different processes"?

Anybody know?

4. I can certainly remember that

I remember being despised by my family and being alone and miserable wishing I could die.

It can get better, I still feel like I am faking being a "regular" person now because of my experiences in the past, but interests have sprung up in my life that have led to more socialization; and I am very happy that has happened for me.

I hope you will have positive things happen in your life.

Yes, I AM a chronically pessimistic and heavily medicated autistic spectrum hermit sort of person.

Deal with it.

Amazingly enough a few people, family mostly, and my pack of dogs, they still love me.

Like Paul Erdős my rocket scientist grandfather survived on amphetamines, past ninety years old, but I rely on more subtle, and more importantly, currently legal prescription meds.

Off my meds I'm no good to anyone, especially myself. I run until my bare feet bleed. Mostly harmless, but disturbing to others.

It took some intensive therapy to teach me to be kind to myself.

Seriously, if I die on the streets living under a pile of newspapers I've already won this game of life. And in some perverse way it's this simple knowledge that keeps me going.

Whoa.

Exactly....he needs to be hospitalized and away from them all.  He also needs therapy with people who have recovered and won't let him get away with excuses or feeling sorry for himself.
