(about six hours later, I guess)
Okay, sorry for having quoted Skippy and left; a friend was here working on a piece of farm machinery late at night, and needed my help out in the garage for a bit, after which I just went to bed, forgetting all about this.
That piece by Skippy, above, is a rare piece of primitive writing; in fact, it's almost a collector's item, in that there's not a single mistruth or distortion in it. Every bit of it's true, although I fail to see why his having attended a "two-teacher eight-grade school" was a handicap, something he apparently thinks indicative of a deprived youth.
And the part about the black-and-white television. I'm not clear on this, because television was never a part of my own life, and Skippy and franksolich are, roughly, from the same era. I could be wrong, but I always assumed that from, say, circa 1958-1968, while color television was available, really, black-and-white television was the "norm;" one was more likely to live in a home that had the latter than the former.
Skippy also once wrote a most-excellent piece about his grandmother wringing necks of chickens and defeathering them, which struck me as a sure indication of utter poverty; I have no doubt the windows in his house had those tacky pull-down shades instead of draperies or venetian blinds, and maybe some of them were torn.
Skippy apparently later in life made contact with his absent father, and apparently was with him when his father faded away from this time and place. Some months ago, when the locust primitive was whining about his own paternal ancestor, Skippy posted a photograph of himself visiting his ill father in the hospital, and it was an awesome photograph, evocative of so much that is good and decent.
<<<knows good photography.
One won't ever see that photograph posted here, however, because we're decent and civilized people, and really, such private moments that happen to get photographed, don't need aired on a public forum, especially not on Skins's island, where the primitives have coarser, cruder sensitivities and possess no understanding of aesthetics or pathos. They're just bloodcurdling beasts, the primitives, with no human feelings.
So.....it might seem Skippy's a nice guy.
Skippy may have a few outstanding good points--overcoming adversity's always worthy of admiration--but I beg to differ; Skippy's not a nice guy at all.
As with previous Top DUmmie contests, and as explained throughout the year, members are encouraged to campaign for, to boost, to promote, their choices, on both the nomination and voting threads, so as to excite interest in those candidates.....just as I did a few years ago with the die alte sau who did finally win top spot despite formidable competition.
So one's likely to hear more about my favorite candidate all the way up until voting closes. I don't think he deserves the number one spot, or even the number two or three or four spots, but I do think he rates a spot in the top ten somewhere, in which case I get to write an award specific to him.
In his calling attention to a minor, inconsequential, trivial, outdated error franksolich once made, Skippy brought it on himself.
