Lots of good answers above.
I'm married to a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. She finds Barry Obama the cat's meow. He can do no wrong. And ditto for the entire Dem party, in general.
Mrs E is no DUmmy, though. She is first and foremost a music educator, which puts her into the realm of touchy-feely, education-is-the-answer-to-our-problems and while that isn't a bad characteristic in and of itself, what it invariably leads to is
the expectation that government provides.
She believes in hard work and she believes in what she's doing. She believes that kids who apply themselves in their studies reap benefits later and, insofar as her music students are concerned, the vast majority of them that excel stem from the Asian culture. She sees the efforts that the Asian culture puts on children AND their parents, and it goes far, far beyond cell phones and X-boxes. Those kids work their asses off.
Yep, here we go -- Euph's a racist.

What she absolutely cannot see is the dichotomy and incongruous analogy between government -- a collection of bureaucracies that serve themselves -- and education, which has an entirely different approach to things, simply meaning:
Government takes.
*Education gives.
*Or so we'd like to think.
Meanwhile, Mrs E and I STILL can't discuss politics. Too much bullshit, too much snarling and fighting.
