What makes one a democrat/liberal?
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:18:38 AM »
I can't wrap my head around some of the democrats policies.  One is taking from one to give to another.  What do you think turns one into a democrat and worse a liberal?

(Not trying to be funny but I do not understand their mindset because it basically amounts to thievery to me) So I want honest answers, not just the comedy gold y'all put out daily.  :fuelfire:

My thought is that it comes from the misconception of a couple of things; the nature of "wealth", and its source, and an immature concept of human behavior.

I think that most self-described "liberals" are honest about their convictions. But self-described Democrats are a mix of those that are honest and those that are Democrats for convenience.

Liberals tend to use outside forces to explain a person’s circumstances.  A person isn’t poor because they have made poor decisions or because they have a poor work ethic, they are poor because societal forces made them poor.  A person isn’t wealthy because they’ve worked hard and sacrificed for it, they are wealthy because of benefits in their upraising, or because good things just happened to them.  Look at “White Privilege” for an example of this.

Because liberals think that our circumstances are beyond our control, they want to rebalance what they see as unfair inequality.  Also, I think many liberals see wealth as being a finite commodity, so they feel that when one person becomes wealthy they take from the potential wealth of another person.

Their ideas of helping people makes the ones they try to help dependent rather than independent. I don't want war either, but there's bad people out there. In their attempts to design a free and open society, they have to force others to go along. Their thoughts don't exceed the next 5 minutes of life. They speak of love but have the most vile hatred towards those who don't play along with them as any people who have ever lived. That's just a few things.

I don't get it either.

My theory is, leftists are typically lazy people who feel they are owed for any injustice they can dream up. They try to cover their selfish desire for free stuff by claiming they care about people worse off than they are.

I also believe they are afraid to live life by the rules of life, they want to do whatever the hell they want and don't want any consequences for their actions. If they get pregnant they want to kill the child, if they get VD they want a free cure, if they don't want to work they demand to be fed, clothed, housed, and every other need met with zero responsibility on their part.

They also can't be bothered to control their own behavior so they insist that government tell them to eat vegetables instead of that cheeseburger, they insist that government restrict how big the Big Gulp can be, and they insist that government tell them to be friendly to the environment. The problem they run into is us bastards who want to decide for ourselves what we need and what we want.

They are basically children who need someone to be their parent, and they believe government is the perfect choice.

Leftists are people who are self-righteous and repressed. They are always angry, bitter, and unhappy and are consumes them. They are immature and are overgrown children trapped in adult bodies.

What I also don't get is their idea that anything beyond life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness is a RIGHT.

Ah yes, FDR's "second bill of rights";

Quote
 In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:
â—¾The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the Nation;
â—¾The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
â—¾The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
â—¾The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
â—¾The right of every family to a decent home;
â—¾The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
â—¾The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
â—¾The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security.

The democrats "Saint" FDR is the father of today's big government.

I think there are all kinds of Democrats.

Some are very nice hard working people, who don't really follow politics.  They do their civic duty and vote the D ticket, mainly because their parents did and they just accept that as who they are.
My dad was like that and so was I for a time.  However, my dad bought into the lie, that the Republican party was only full of selfish rich guys who were out of touch with the little guy.

My sis and I both became Republicans.  Mainly because of social, religious and economical reasons.  I for one sensed the communist  creep taking over the Democrat party and effecting laws.

Then there are the other kinds like you all describe.

Due to the damage the democrats have unleashed on us, I hold the "decent democrats" just as responsible for this mess as the moonbats. In other words **** all democrats.

I think it comes from a warped sense of entitlement. They really believe they are entitled to what anyone else has or has earned.

I think that's pretty much what happened with my husband.  Parents and grandparents were D, then he went to liberal colleges and worked in LA for years.  Before he met me he thought all conservatives were the same.  His eyes have been opened quite a bit and he didn't vote for O last time.  We still have political differences, but he's come a long way.

Off topic, but did you see where the gov is monkeying around with cherished holiday recipes?  They remade the green bean casserole.  Took out the mushroom soup and replaced it with skim milk.  Removed the FF onions on top and replaced them with low sodium, whole wheat cracker crumbs.  Here's a pic:

Yuck!  They're doing one a week, trying to eradicate all salt, fat, and joy from our kitchens and tables.  Good luck with that, bureaucrats.

That picture makes me want to cry.
I noticed a few of the responses seem to be from "centers", probably hostpitals, nursing homes, and after-school care.  THOSE people will probably go home and have the same green been casserole they've had for years.  It's always someone else that has to suffer when some liberal decides to meddle with tradition.

And then there's a lot of this: http://blogs.usda.gov/2013/11/18/makeover-your-holiday-meals-with-myplate-week-1/

I never did get the whole green bean casserole thing.

I prefer fresh green beans cooked with onion and bacon.

Lots of good answers above.

I'm married to a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat. She finds Barry Obama the cat's meow. He can do no wrong. And ditto for the entire Dem party, in general.

Mrs E is no DUmmy, though. She is first and foremost a music educator, which puts her into the realm of touchy-feely, education-is-the-answer-to-our-problems and while that isn't a bad characteristic in and of itself, what it invariably leads to is the expectation that government provides.

She believes in hard work and she believes in what she's doing. She believes that kids who apply themselves in their studies reap benefits later and, insofar as her music students are concerned, the vast majority of them that excel stem from the Asian culture. She sees the efforts that the Asian culture puts on children AND their parents, and it goes far, far beyond cell phones and X-boxes. Those kids work their asses off.

Yep, here we go -- Euph's a racist.  :lmao:

What she absolutely cannot see is the dichotomy and incongruous analogy between government -- a collection of bureaucracies that serve themselves -- and education, which has an entirely different approach to things, simply meaning:

Government takes.

*Education gives.

*Or so we'd like to think.

Meanwhile, Mrs E and I STILL can't discuss politics. Too much bullshit, too much snarling and fighting.  :rotf:

With my Aunt (I've posted about her) it's an over-reactive response to anything that is not deemed "fair".

Blacks can't read......................not fair, evil white people did it to them, and caused them to HAVE to speak Ebonics. Yes, she said this.

Mexicans can't freely cross the border..................not fair, evil white people at it again.

Now you could probably say she's a 1%er. Great public sector Unionized job her whole life. Huge pension plan, though she LOVES to cry "poor"   :whatever:  all the time. Though retired (early, of course) she will go and speak at seminars for a very nice sum. Ya, cry me a river.

In her situation I honestly believe it's guilt, which she over-compensates for.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
