Hey Tess I'm also fitman who unloaded on the feminazi dykes on DU. Some of my view are liberal and some are very conservative.  And Yes I believe the RW is gulliable when it comes to oil and energy in this county..we will never have $2.00 per gallon oil ever again because the oil co's can't make money at that price and we will never have cheap natural gas for the same reason..if NG get's cheap they will shut off production or export it.

http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,91838.0.html

The oil companies make a few pennies on each gallon. Most of the costs in three dollar and higher gas is federal and local taxes.

rsmith won't last. It's brutal work in shitty conditions. I did it for 18 months up until the lay-offs of '09. 120 degree heat or -20, it didn't matter, you were swinging hammers and hoisting 4" steel. Then, after 14 hours at the well site you'd go back once or twice a week to change pump gaskets. You fall asleep and wake up to start it all over again. Ninety percent don't make it 12 months.

BTW -- I was making the best PT scores of my military career when I was fracking.

That, plus the fact he made it all up.

Chances are slim that he even has a CDL.

He makes things like this up all the time.

http://nd.craigslist.org/trp/4142767421.html

Williston is the area growing like crazy right now from what I read.  McDonalds is paying $15.00 per hour.  Just general construction is paying $20.00 per hour because they are growing so fast they can't build homes fast enough.

And as has been pointed out elsewhere, the cost of living is so incredibly out of control that you HAVE to pay the guys in the patch that kind of money or else they'd have nothing left at the end of the week (think $2500/month for a 2-BR apt, $1000 plus electric for a campsite, $700/WEEK for a hotel room.)

Oh, and fit?  Natural gas IS cheaper than dirt right now--think about $4 per Therm.  It's why all of the nukes are closing or not being built.  And while people are making money NOW, there's a reason why it's called a boom, and guess what follows the boom?  BUSTS.  All those pretty shiny houses are going to go empty, unsellable, etc.

Don't believe me?  Scooter, I was raised in the oil patch.  My father made his living doing coal and oil construction.  Google Farmington, NM and "Energy Capital of the Southwest" sometime.  Believe me, I've seen the good, I've seen the not-so good.

Yeah, I could get a 100K job tomorrow, but the costs associated with being there would end up making it more like a 40-50K a year job.

Do you have a link that lists jobs there?

I know here in WV fracking jobs pay damned well. 12 hour days though, 60 hrs a week. This is for grunt work too. Guy I know, in his 20's got on a rig crew watching gauges, dials and stuff, and he pulls down like $60,000-$70,000 a year. Dunno about drivers.

I'm guessing maybe up in the Dakotas it would be more. Dunno.

Again, I've no doubt $100K is doable in the oil patch.  Just as $80-100 K was doable in the oil patch in WY, NM, and TX back in the 80's.  And those same folks were SOL when the boom went to shit in the late 80's, just as this one will too.

I've figured out that in order for me just to BREAK EVEN if I were to leave Scoobie and the kids here (moving isn't really an option) while I do the contracting bit I'd have to be making anywhere from an extra $25-50K a year.  That's a pretty tall order, and given the working conditions of ND, especially in the dead of winter, not really a big move up.

I thinks somebody Randall knows got the job offer, but not Randall himself. He's a little too long in the tooth to withstand such a cold climate anyways IMO.

Probably because those values include work.

.....you got to that catty little freak trumad.  :rotf:

The truemud primitive's an odd one; he's one of these males who blames all of the problems of women, on men.

And so as to atone for our sins, he takes up the Cross, and allows his wife to humiliate him, abuse him.

She dresses him in diapers and baby-bonnet, and gives him a plastic rattle on which to suck.

The guy's weird, really weird.

And in case one doesn't know this, the truemud primitive bears a remarkable physical resemblence to that long-ago television celebrity, Jim Bakker, of the old Jim & Tammy fund-raising show.

I don't recall conservatives in general claiming that gas will go back to $2. Our biggest concern is that we aren't doing more domestic exploration and drilling. It's the dependence upon oil from nations whose loyalty could turn on a dime that cause us to sit up and take notice.

Yep Sparky, I agree with you there.  :cheersmate:

We here in WV are really aware of boom and bust. Coal state and all. Seen it happen over the last 30 years. At least in an underground mine the temp is fairly constant. And it does get butt cold in WV. Not as butt cold as ND, but you down in a holler in the winter and that damned air comes down... you are cold. Or up on top of a mountain with the wind blowing.

Me? If I was 20ish, no college, I could see going and doing that. But these kids will do the same thing the miners did. Spend all the money and then be broke when the bust comes.

Now if someone was young, single, smart, and saved their money... they could ride that horse until it dies in 6 or 8 years, then go to school and get an education and a new career. Nothing like telling a prospective boss that your ass got out in 0 degree weather, snow all over the place, hills to go up and down, and made it to work and actually worked in it for 12 hours!

The big thing I hear now from the clients is that the 20-30 somethings can't show up for work.  :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

I've heard of these guys working up there spending every dime they make on basics and anything left over goes to the strip clubs.

I work in healthcare.  With the few things I'm seeing already, and concern about the next two years, I got my CDL.  I'm female, past 50, and if I go to the oil field, I won't be unusual.  I have a few friends that have either quit cowboying or leased their places and are working the Bakken field while it lasts.

Yeah, the hours suck (but I work about 60/week now), and yeah it's cold there and dark too much of the day in the winter, but it's not much better where I am and my horse and cattle work is done in that kind of climate in the winter.  It's dangerous work, which is part of why it pays so well.  Some people I know tell of jamming as many people into a camper as possible and sleeping in shifts.  Same thing happened in Gillette and Rock Springs, WY during the last boom.  And honestly, I've done that during calving season one more than one ranch.  Ideal?  No way.  Keep the bills paid and the retirement nest egg growing?  You bet.

A friend told me yesterday that quite a few guys and gals working the Bakken area are leaving and heading to Midland, TX.  I'd rather face ND.  There are rumors of drilling near me.  I'd definitely try to get back here if I end up doing that kind of work.

Funny you should mention those two areas. I lived in Green River in the late 70's and Gillette in the early 80's. Helped as a laborer one summer building the dragline at south of town (Black Thunder?)

And there are so many towns around there that still make a ton of money off coal and oil.

Newt's whole campaign speech was based on the fact if he got into office we would see $2.00 per gallon gas again and people on the right believed it.

The oil co's do not want the US to be independent on our own oil.. if we where they would have no military to protect their assets in turd world countries.. They want a free paid for security force(read US military) to protect their assets.

Nearly all the out of town gas guys are getting  a monthly per diem for living expenses..one reason the rent in out area went sky high. Most have told me they are getting 1000-1600 per month for rent above their pay.

I've heard of these guys working up there spending every dime they make on basics and anything left over goes to the strip clubs.

Yeah, North Dakota strip clubs.  Go figure.

I had a buddy doing the pipeline in Alaska. Five guys to a one room shack at high rent. When he got any time off the beers were $5 (cheap now but that was dollar draft times) and the place he went to had a sign above the bar that said "WE SCREW THE NEXT GUY AND PASS THE SAVINGS ON TO YOU."
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
