Need to find a new place to Rent: Looking for DU help.

Last edited Sun Aug 11, 2013, 05:30 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

I live in the New Castle PA area. Need to find another place to rent since this landlord basically is flipping out on us because HIS place is falling apart.

Our lease is up in January and I am looking to get a place line up. I am looking for a one or 2 bedroom place. I NEED All utilities included in the rental price and is pet friendly. My wife is debating on putting an ad in the paper.

We won't trust code enforcement after they said this guy we are currently renting from was a good landlord.

We are willing to pay $550 - $600 That is the most we can go.

(Cross with PA group)

Changed--"Hoping for" to Need all utilities included--

Seriously you really need to go to DU and beg someone to find you a crib?  :mental:

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Water, sewer, electricity, heat, air conditioning and 2 bedrooms,...for $550 a month...should be able to get a nice double door refrigerator box.

IIRC Underground kitty is also looking for new digs, maybe they can show some of that big tent thinking and join forces.  After all with an extra roommate and you may be able to move up to living under the subway.

Sounds like he needs to rent a 2 bedroom for about $400/month. Good luck.

I never understood why renters want/expect utilities to be paid. Can't they figure it out?  It seems that most of the ones who want stuff paid are the ones looking at the low end stuff.

I don't understand it either.  If I am the one using the utilities, then why should I expect someone else to pay for them?  Plus, if you aren't paying them, then where is your motivation to conserve water and electricity?

More than likely CR they have stiffed one of the utilities and don't wanna pay the bill.

Sounds like it.  While I'm not familiar with that area, I did a nadin and looked at some of the properties available.  $500/mo for a 2BR is a possibility, but not with utilities.

The reason seems to be that it's much like Detroit or other cities in the Rust Belt--vibrant and alive until just after WWII, but steadily declining ever since, having lost over half the peak population.  High crime, high unemployment, low income.  Yeah, lemme pack my bags, boys!

Hmmm, 2 bedroom apt, all utilities inc, pet friendly and all for less than $550 a month? I say the DUmmy should look in...1985? Does that help?

I crap bigger than $600 every day much less every month.

DUmmy renters think that when utilities are included, that means the landlord is paying them.

It's sort of like they how they think corporations pay taxes.

The money just...appears. Landlords and companies have stashes.

You can get places that cheap about an hour outside of town here, but I wouldn't expect it to be in a nice neighborhood.

A trailer IN the dump here will still run you close to $1000/mo.  PLUS utilities.

As DUmmies get more food stamps and more welfare, the price of Old Milwaukee and the rent on their hovels go up by the same amount. They hate it when that happens.

Read my mind. "HIS place is falling apart" means they trashed the hell out of the place.  But in fairness to the DUmmie, they will never, ever see it that way, because "the landlord is just gouging us to get richer".

That sends up a red flag. Most likely they are not able to get utilities in their name due to a past broken relationship with the utility company, or they don't have the money for a deposit.

Some localities are now offering pre-paid electricity, like a pre paid cell phone! For a couple bucks extra you can get an in home volt meter that tells you how much you are using and warn you when you need to "re-up" with funds.

Quote
There are also non-traditional plans that offer pay-as-you-go power. Pay-as-you-go power is designed to help customers who may have credit issues but still need to get electricity. You pay for your electricity up-front for a pre-determined amount of service, eliminating the worries that come with getting the bill each month.

For those lucky enough to have a smart meter, there are even pay-as-you-go plans that operate like a prepaid cell phone. With these plans there is no set monthly cycle so you can load up for months at a time, or add money as you need it throughout the month. There are no deposits, no credit checks and no reconnection fees, just the ultimate in flexibility along with a competitive rate.

It used to be like that here. The shitty economy fixed that. It all started about the time Obama took office.

In 2005 the relators offices were full of people looking for homes and some were buying homes and property without seeing anything but pictures.

I happen to have an apartment that's pet friendly and utilities included (that's just the way the house is set up), and is reasonable in price.

Wait...ABSOLUTELY NO DUmmies.
