I asked him how much the fine was and he did not even know-he had to look it up. If he is going to affect my income, shouldn't he know this? ...

I knew DUmmies were stupid, but the bolded part perfectly sums up a just how stupid they are.

If a $180 fine affects your income that severely, maybe you should have shown some forethought and skipped the vacation and saved the money.had a lifejacket on board.  It is not law enforcements job to distinguish between those who can afford a fine and those who cannot when citing people, their job is to enforce the law.  You state that you were aware of the law, and the law does not say "unless you are an excellent swimmer" or "unless the water is calm and you don't go more than 10 feet from shore." The law says that if you are in a water craft there should be a life preservation device for every person on-board, or something along those lines.

I know that I can't afford a speeding ticket right now, so I don't speed.  Amazing how that has helped to keep me from getting a ticket.

$180 would buy a really nice lifejacket, DUmmy.

3 feet or 3 inches you can still drown in that much water. Almost everyday you hear of some boat/ship/canoe/ going under and then a search for survivors  and more then enough times there isn't anyone left. Oh well I guess if the DUmbass has insurance then someone will be getting a nice check in the mail.

With half a dozen lakes within an hour of here, it happens every weekend during the summer.  You'd think some dumbasses would learn.

We wouldn't refer to them as DUmbasses if they did.

No then we call them Ex-DUmbasses. Like in the Monty Python skit with the parrot.

Mitt Romney Was Arrested For Disorderly Conduct In 1981

It’s a little reported anecdote, but in 1981 presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney was arrested for disorderly conduct. The issue of Romney’s arrest first came to light during his 1994 Senate run against incumbent Senator Ted Kennedy, appearing at an unfortunate time while Romney was running ads talking to police officers with sirens in the background, promising to be tough on crime

According to what Romney told the Boston Globe in 1994, he had taken his family off to Wayland, Mass.'s Lake Cochituate, about an hour outside Boston, for a summer excursion. As Romney prepared to put his family boat into the water, a park officer told Romney not to launch because his license appeared to have been painted over. The officer told Romney if he put his boat into the water he would face a $50 fine.

<--->

Several days later, Romney appeared in Natick District Court and threatened to sue the arresting office for a false arrest. The charges were dropped and sealed at Romney’s request.

"He did not have the right to arrest me because I was not a disorderly person. This was an obvious case of false arrest," Romney said. "The officer obviously agreed because he agreed to dropping the case."

The $50.00 would have been chicken feed to Romney, but he fought it and they dropped the charges.  How do you like them apples, DUmmies?

Choke on that while you scrounge up the $160.00, digonswine, then go cry me a river and then ride down it in your kayak.

Well Delmar, Romney lives by principles. The DUchebags live by corruption.

My nephew( my nieces husband) will tell you, kayaks are tippy at best.

I kayak with a hybrid style 13 footer.  I will wear a jacket sometimes, and not other times.  If I'm out on the lake where I might get hit by a dipshit in a boat, I'll wear one.  If I'm on a small creek or river where there is no danger of powered watercraft, or if I'm just skirting the edge of a lake five feet off the short looking for a nice fishing spot, I won't wear one.

Kayaks tend to have poor initial stability, but good secondary stability, which is why they can feel very tipsy to someone not used to them.  I feel safer in my kayak than in something with good initial stability.  The hardest part for me has always been getting into the kayak without causing a commotion.

I have a 15-footer... that damn thing is a Cadillac.  Smooth, comfortable, and stable.  I had a 9-foot river kayak but I didn't like it.  It was impossible to use unless there was some current.

I always wear a life jacket.  The lakes here are deep.

I haven't gotten to go much in the last couple of years, because it's been so dry here.  The last time I went, I ended up carrying the kayak over a mile back to an area where I had reception to call somebody to pick me up.

Most of the lakes that I can think of around here are man-made, so the depth really varies.  My usual kayak hangout can be over 100 feet deep in the main channels, but I don't go in those unless I'm crossing them, due to powered craft traffic.  Most of the water I'm in is between five and twenty feet deep, unless I'm on a creek, then it's usually less than three feet.

I use a Necky Manitou 13 along with a Werner Skagit paddle.  My spousal unit was sore at me for a week or so after I bought that paddle, but man, it sure is easy on the arms.  What sort of 15 foot lake Cadillac do you run?  :-)

I have a  Necky Dolphin sit on top and it is stable as anything. I can go over 5 foot face breakers with no worry. It's wide and I am not the fastest but stability is not a problem. Now my friend has a fibreglass surf ski and that is unstable. you tighten your ass for a second and it is tippy. Have to keep that that thing at a good clip and jelly butt or you are over.

Here in red state hell, I never worry about the people in kayaks. I figure a kayaker expects to be in the drink sooner or later.

What bothers me is to see two or three people in a little aluminum cartopper, putting along with maybe five or six inches of freeboard.

I'm aware of my wake but there's not much you can do.

If you stay on plane, they'll think you're trying to swamp them, but if you throttle back the boat will squat down in the water and the wake is actually higher until you get down to no-wake idle speed. Anyway, you can't keep cutting the throttle when you're pulling kids on a tube or skis.

And no matter what you do, they're still at the mercy of the pinheads on those obnoxious jet skis.

TVA lakes are no place for people in low freeboard boats, canoes, or kayaks. It's like taking a bicycle on the interstate.

Same here Battle. I used to kayak down the New and Gauley back when I was in the scouts. I'm 6'3", and have been ever since I was 14, and it is damn hard to get in one... especially the thin plastic ones used to run rapids. Those are the only ones that I'm familiar with. This was circa late 70's. Back before it became popular.

If I am gonna fish, I'd use a canoe.

Either way, I wear a life jacket and a helmet if I am running rapids... whether canoe or kayack.  Ain't done it in years. There is just no damned  way I'm getting in an inflatable raft that is used down those rivers now.... especially if the water is running fast and they are drawing down the dams!!   :cheersmate: :cheersmate:
