When It comes to discussing politics with beloved family and friends, I won't. Everyone has the right to their political views, whether I agree with them or not. I will respect their views as long as they respect MINE. I love my family , and friends too much to let political views ruin a relationship...
Most of the members of my family are able to discuss politics and stay close. It is a bit of a tradition to sit around a campfire drinking beer and discussing any and all topics until the wee hours of the morning with my cousins and I. We can generally disagree and not have it effect anything other than the discussion at hand.
My brother and I can't discuss politics too much, he is too passionate and he'll get mean if we disagree.
My dad and I are actually on really opposite sides of the political spectrum. I was amazed when I found out that he supports gun control, but I am a total daddy's girl and our political views have no effect whatsoever on our relationship.

My mom is fairly moderate, but she told me once she she tried to encourage me towards more conservative views than theirs when I was little because she believed that I would be happier as a result.
