Yeah, okay, you got in. Two hours late (traffic, rain, and construction.) No gang-rapes in E. St. Louis.

 Oh for the love....

You sound disappointed.

I almost stopped at Busch Stadium for a look-see.  I might have to stop at the brewery on my way back.  I saw a couple of interesting places in Illinois, too.

I didn't get a whole lot of pictures and those I have, I have no way to get off my phone without a USB cable.

No, I didn't do a very good job planning this.  But I don't care, I'm on vacation.

We stopped here for lunch.  It was crowded and busy, and marv did a bunch of shopping. :-)

I don't recall at the moment... history museums, gun collections, I think there was at least one auto show going on.

Speaking of billboards, I there there may be more per capita in Missourri than any other state I've been in.  They all seem to be for casinos, strip clubs, and smut shops.

At 3 PM it was 100 degrees. Definitely hotter than the hinges of hell. Lots of people enjoying bacon and beer. A pretty decent blues band (hey, that's KC for you, right?), but the heat drove us out early.

Just too friggin' hot.

Pictures to come.

There were four of us:

Chris_
Big Dog
marv
Eupher

We started out at the Roasterie, sort of a new yuppie joint in the middle of the old stockyard section of Kansas City, MO. The clientele of the Roasterie were well-to-do yuppie types. The neighborhood definitely something other than that. Big Dog says to avoid this area at night. But we were here during the late morning:

An interesting conversation piece on top of the Roasterie. It looks like a full-sized copy of a Douglas DC-3 airplane.

marv was there in his Tea Party T-shirt.

Chris_ had had a bad night, evidently, and was sweltering in the already oppressive heat:

Big Dog got there before anybody else and gave us a rundown on the joint and the local history.

After a cup of joe, we adjourned to the bbq joint. Apparently a well-known joint.

Chris_ was in a far better mood by this time. Musta been the coffee.

A couple shots of all of us:

After some very kingly bbq, it was time to hit the Baconfest. Hey, we do have our priorities:

Can't forget the funnel cake truck:

I really like funnel cakes, but I think my stomach would have turned inside out if I treid to eat one standing under the sun in 100-degree heat.

It was interesting and definitely makes me want to try some stuff in the kitchen when I get home.  Right after I replace my busted glasses.

I used to fly in to KC about once a month when I was out at the Pentagon. I guest lectured at Leavenworth for CGSC for a couple of years. The best BBQ on the planet, IMHO, with one exception;

A little road side stand otuside of Atterbury, Indiana had the absolute best pulled pork I have ever had.

Looks like you guys had a great time.

Well, I gotta get in here somehow. It was a typical hot August for Kansas City. But what I'd planned as a three hour drive from Shell Knob turned into four hours. Some pretty serious fog got in the way though. (Your message was on the recorder when I got home, Big Dog.)

By the time I got to KC for the coffee, I could hardly walk. Then four hours up, and four hours back still equaled eight hours confined behind the wheel. Oh well!

But I did get one pic:

Chris, Big Dog, and Eupher having coffee. I was the ugly guy behind the camera.

I say this publicly for all to know; Chris, Big Dog and Eupher are are some of the finest folks I've met, and I've seen many sunrises on many hot August days in KC. I wish I could put up a sound track of applause for these guys for what they've contributed to the Cave.
