Back in 75 or 76 I ed a tornado form. Was an experience. Turned out to be the largest tornado cited and to touchdown in North America,at the time.

By BIL was with me at the time & pointed to a bigass cloud in the sky. The cloud has 5 or 6 little squigly fingers eminating from it. All the sudden in a flash it was like the cloud imploded on itself then a big ass funnel droped to the ground and started churning up the area.

Frank how do you know there are warning's or storm sirens going off with your lack of hearing?

Do you have something that vibrates or flashes to let you know you need to check the tv for weather stuff?

I watch the cats.

Really.

A dog would be better of course, but cats do okay.

For some peculiar reason, I am one of those rare Nebraskans who never in his life has seen a live rattlesnake or a tornado.

I'm sure there can't be more than a couple thousand of us, who haven't seen one or the other, or both.

Last year when I was working at the Macon,GA Target there were reports of tornadoes in our area. All of us employees and the customers in the store were told to gather in the middle of the store to wait it out. When the report came in that there were two tornadoes making their way towards us I turned to the two cashiers that were near me and told them that it had been an honor and a privilege serving with them.

It was last month that Macon got hit kind of hard by tornadoes and I saw the photos of the city and it was a sight to behold.

yep our cows always told us when it was getting ready to rain. we always knew when someone was coming because our dog would get up from wherever he was and go sit in the middle of the yard looking off in the direction whatever was coming from. very seldom did we have to call out to the milk cows, all you had to do was walk down to the barn, slide the door open. They would peel themselve out from amongst the beef cows ,mosey on up & into the barn & their stall.  the horses they were a diffent matter.you could call them  and they would raise their head up and look at you as to say 'You want me come get me'

Actually, when I returned to the Sandhills seven years ago, I was surprised to find out that "weather watching" in Nebraska (and probably Kansas and Oklahoma too) had become a popular spectator sport, bringing in lots of people and lots of bucks.

It probably has something to do with the unparalleled prosperity of the past several years, people having so much disposable income they can do this.

The problem with it is that such "weather watchers" tend to be the Starbucks-Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream crowd.

Great pic. I would imagine that the twister was closer in real life than it looks in the pic.

I am speculating, given how the atmosphere distorts perceptions, that the base of the funnel is actually about five miles away, maybe a little more than that.
