When buying a car, don't treat the customer like shit

My beautiful daughter decided it was time to replace her high millage American car (Pontiac). Realizing fully that her entire life has been influenced by cars (thanks Dad) she did her research of the cars SHE wanted to buy. After reading everything and asking friends who drove what she was looking for, she narrowed it down to a Civic 4-door and a Jetta 4-door, used but late model. She wanted to do this hereself without my help.

She first went to the local Honda dealer, huge, been in business for generations.

They treated her like shit.

Salesman wouldn't shake her hand when she offered it, was condescending, RUDE, treated her like an idiot, wouldn't let her test drive the car, asked her IF HER HUSBAND WAS GOING TO BUY THE CAR and NEEDED her license to verify she was "legitimate". After leaving her for almost 10 minutes to talk to the finance guy (or that's what the office said) he came back and asked how she would pay for it.

She said cash and she knew which car she wanted.

He said "I'm going on vacation when I leave, why don't you come back a week from Monday", while she tried to explain she knew which car she wanted, he basically said see me when I come back.

She left. Later she found out on Dealerrater.com they have a SHIT rating with their customers (I gave her the website).

She then went to the local VW dealer. The salesperson was incredible. Took her for a drive, explained everything, help her pick out a NON-lease return low mileage recent Jetta, and took her for a dealer tour. All the while, he kept emphasising how important the optional warranty was, and I mean constant, as if he was trying to tell her something. Maybe h was, the shop had more than it's share of Jetta's in for repair.

That's when she contacted me frustrated, disappointed. She didn't understand cash isn't king in the car business, hey make their profit on the back end.

We went to the dealer I've bought cars from for 30 years, the local Chevy dealer. We walked around the lot unmolested and she discovered the Chevy Cruze, and loved it. We checked the used car lot and they had only three, one was a one-owner very recent 4 door LT. They let her TAKE IT HOME on an extended test drive. NONE in the shop, ZERO. That did it. They didn't ask how she was going to pay for it, were GREAT with her, and closed the deal giving her a substantial discount off the advertised price PLUS a HUGE amount for her trade, over and above what it was worth. She had over $2000 left from what she anticipated spending after trading in her old car.

She took it home a week ago. Runs great, GREAT gas millage, fits her needs PERFECTLY, warranty till 2016, and the whole point was she was treated like an equal, as a friend and not a customer.

She bought a UAW made car.

She made Dad proud.

In cash, hard to believe, as here:

36. We bought our jeep, cash as well,

From a local dealer. They were all but nice, we almost walked out three times, but the jeep fit our needs like a glove.

Oh and being a woman is indeed a disadvantage both when buying and taking them to the shop. Yes, that is where we still have some quaint, and I might add, wrong attitudes.

Well that whole thing is a lie.  There is no salesman at a normal big name dealership that would act like that.  And they verify her license?  OMG!!!  They take her license if she test drives to see if she has a ****ing license to drive.  He asked her how she would pay for what?  In the next sentence she tells him she knew which car she wanted?  So which is it dumb ass?  He would have sold her the car right then and there not told her to come back.  That is how I know your whole story is bullshit.

Yeah, that's what car dealers are famous for, giving you trade-in value above what the car is worth.  I've lost track of how many dealers voluntarily offered to give me the top value recommended by the blue books and then some.

Being a woman is not a disadvantage in the car shopping world.  Buying a car is easy for me.  I look for what I want BEFORE I go to the dealership on our valley auto mall website.  When I find something I like, I check out the car on the lot, walk inside and find a salesman... any sales MAN... must be a MAN!  I tell that man what car I want and tell him I want to take it on a test drive.  I give them my license because it's required that the dealership has proof that I can legally drive a car.

If the test drive passed my standards, we go back inside to play "Let's Make a Deal".  I throw out a number I want to pay, if they turn it down, I get up to leave and that's when the sales MAN will start doing things my way.  I go into dealerships knowing I am leaving with a car that day.  Since salesmen work on commission, they want to move that car.

I would tell Nadin to wear a tank top and shorts to purchase a car... but nobody wants to see that.  I like having boobies when it comes to buying cars.  Just saying.

My car doesn't go to the shop because my husband knows how to work on cars.  Nadin is such an expert in everything, I'm surprised she doesn't know how to work on her own vehicles.

Pretty common actually.
They make up for it with a smaller "substantial" discount.
Just a numbers game to make the customer feel like they got a good deal.
Dealer then sells trade-in at auction, and gets actual value.
Didn't lose a penny as the customer paid more for the new.

I hate shopping for cars/rucks.

Last time I had a bad experience I was in a hurry. Whipped into a Ford dealership and told the heavily loaded down with gold jewelry wearing salesman(always a bad sign) I wanted that red diesel FORD F-350 4-door dually. Told him I wanted the very best price he had, tags, taxes, everything and no trade in, one price. Told him I'd be back in about an hour and if the price was right I'd write them a check for it and drive it home. When I came back by he had the price, it was a good one, told him I'd take it. When we got in the office the price changed, dealer prep so much, origination fee so much, extended warranty, tags so much, taxes so much, blah, blah, blah. I reminded him that I had said that I wanted a price, just one price for tags, taxes everything....oh, he tells these other cost are normal and in addition to the quoted price......I walked out. I'm glad he thought I was a fool, it saved me 40 thousand because after that I decided I really didn't need another truck. :-)

I was going to ask why he would have a problem with the dealer wanting to see her license before she could drive their car, then I realized it is because of DUmmies who go to car dealers hopped up on weed with suspended licenses then wrap the car around a telephone pole and sue the dealership for letting them drive. I suppose if one of my kind was responsible for a policy like that I might be a bit touchy about it too.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Hmmm...the only man I've ever seen squeamish with shaking a females hand is a Muslim man. That's a cultural thing largely and I'd bet it's one of his 'pet' cultures that denied his daughter a handshake, likely because he thought her advances 'dirty' in his culture to be forward. So much for all that feminism in that quaint ole brown peoples cultures. :lmao:

Anyway, I think this was all a load of shit bouncy so he could prop up the UAW. Notice how both of the other dealerships were for FOREIGN cars.  ::)

Oh yes.

She probably bought a car, but didn't go to any dealerships specializing in imports.

Given that the brain-damaged primitive lied to the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) a few years ago, it's to be expected that he lied to the primitives too.

If you walk into a store and a brown person is running the cash register, stick out your left hand for your change. If they place it on the counter, they're probably Muslim. I do it most of the time.... :-) ....I'm old. It's permissible to be an ass when your old. :-)

The way I deal for cars they couldn't do that.

.

Best deal I ever got on a Jeep was a fluke of sorts.   Timing and what ever was going on in the dealership.

We pulled in driving a 20 year old boat, Lincoln Cont.  Smoke billowing out the tail pipe and a real mess of a paint job.

We could not afford a new one so we checked out the used and they were also way to expensive for us.  The Young salesman was trying so hard to make a sale, he turned around and told us to wait right where we were and off he ran to the new delivery lot and came whizzing around a corner with a little Yellow Jeep with the top down.   A repo owned for 18 months and in brand new condition.  3,000 miles on it.

The cost was $ $16,000. we went into the dealership to start the haggling about cost, the trade in value on our $200 car and to our surprise we received $2,000 trade in and 0% interest.

We asked no questions just signed on the dotted line and drove her home.   What a deal we got, today we have owned this baby for 13 years and outside of scheduled maintenance and new tires she runs like a clock.

A once in a life time deal, we were in the right place at the right time.

Well if she bought a GovMtr car made since 2006 she is in for lots of problems. The later the manufacture date the more the problems.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a second-rate Korean car cobbled together by the UAW.

I have a feeling she will be going back to that dealer quite often.

In 2001 I bought a Saturn SC2 and it is the best car I ever bought.  200K miles on it, reliable an it still gets spectacular mileage.

In 2007 I bought a Saturn VUE.  It's a complete POS.  My MG was more reliable than that turd.  GM took a really good car company and totally destroyed it.
