Actually the only requirements to become Pope is that you are a baptised,catholic male.Its unlikely you would become pope but that is the only requirement. As to your first point. A widower can become a priest as long as he takes the vow of celibacy and honors it. The canon law says nothing about him being a virgin or never married as far as I know. Not every man who enters the seminary has his sights set on  the Chair of St.Peter. I would venture to guess that there are plenty of guys who just want to serve God in whatever way God calls them to serve.

How would having a gay son change anything?  They talk like he's never been around gays.  He administers to the AIDS afflicted, so I'm sure he knows them well.

Well, of course. I was speaking to the political considerations in advancing through the heirarchy.

You could say that Taverner is eligible to be President of the United States.

His odds are probably better than those of a widowed American becoming Pope.

This Pope makes me VERY nervous.   He gets out in Public and wanders about, refuses to wear red shoes , I wonder how many other traditions he ignores.

The Liberal members of the church have already started trouble for him bad mouthing his past.  Me thinks the Pope needs a food taster and a CCW permit.

The Pope has the MOST DANGERIOUS job in the world.
