Okay let's play his silly game and pretend the pope has a gay son. How would that make him change his mind?
If the pope's son was a thief would thou shalt not steal no longer matter?
If the pope's son was an atheist would the pope discard all the teachings of the church?

1. Maybe he does. . .

This is exactly why the left hates religion. They hate that there could be a higher power than government, they hate that true believers will not change their views just because something is popular or unpopular. They hate that religious people believe that rights come from God and that no man, not even 0bama and Feinstein can take those rights. They bitch about evangelic Christians who dare speak their message to others, but have no problems with evangelic liberals preaching to everyone trying to get them to convert to the church of liberalism.

Because then he'd see things from your POV, right DUmmes?  Have you ever opened your mind to his POV?  Have you ever opened your mind to the idea that, since homosexuality is undeniably an unhealthy practice- leading to higher rates of STDs and increased risk of of mental illness and drug abuse- that maybe encouraging people to engage in an activity that leads to such heartache is NOT HELPFUL to them?

Yeah that is obvious to us, but the DUmmies not so much.  :-)

The problem with the left is, they want to control what everyone thinks so they can't have the church following beliefs that don't jive with being a DUmmy.

There are several things that I don't agree with the Catholic church on, but I would never dream of trying to force them to change to suit what I believe.

The only time I would expect any religion to change is if they violated established US law with their doctrine. For example human sacrifice, having 50 wives things like that. I do oppose changing laws in order to make any religion comply, like forcing them to pay for contraception, or forcing them to accept gay marriage as "holy matrimony".

This notion that if the church doesn't accept your behavior they are haters is a false notion. The church teaches that living with your fiancee before you get married is a sin. I did so for 2 years almost, I didn't picket the church and demand they change their doctrine to suit me. I am an agnostic anyway so I figure what I do is between me and God if he does in fact exist, and none of the business of the church, but I am adult enough to accept the fact that they think some things are wrong. And as long as they aren't stoning people to death, or beating up sinners then people should just accept the fact that others have different views.

Wait here MrsSmith, I was under the impression the vow to Chastity was a vow to not have sex with Females.

Way I was taught was at one time the Priests and even the Pope married and had children.   When the man died his children came in to inherit their fathers property and money.   Some where down the line the Church found they were loosing big money and intuited the No Marry into the priests.  This way the church would inherit the money and property of the Priest or Pope.

Boston in the 50's had a Cardinal Sheen who left almost $500,000 to his female house keeper.

Loop holes in everything when it comes to rules and regulations.

Yeah, I was just going to point out that that pesky little "Celibacy" thing would make the DUmmy's proposed situation impossible in the first place, and displays the DUmp's typical ignorance of all things relating to the church.
But, to humor the DUmmy, let's pretend that there is no celibacy, and that the pope has a gay son. If he were to let personal family agendas take priority over accepted Biblical teachings and church traditions (Especially in the Catholic church; Say what you will about the Catholics, they place an especially strong emphasis on preserving their traditions and dogmas), he would be unworthy of his position in the church and should be replaced with someone who has more respect for the church's teachings.

Benedict was the first pope in nearly 600 years to resign/ retire rather than remain pope until his death. The odds of his immediate successor doing the same are, well, pretty slim.

The funny thing is that gay or straight, the rules for Catholics don't change.

Sex outside of the sacrament of marriage is sinful: with yourself, with anyone else. If it's outside of the sacrament, it's a sin

From the catechism:

2339   Chastity includes an apprenticeship in self-mastery which is a training in human freedom. The alternative is clear: either man governs his passions and finds peace, or he lets himself be dominated by them and becomes unhappy.126 "Man's dignity therefore requires him to act out of conscious and free choice, as moved and drawn in a personal way from within, and not by blind impulses in himself or by mere external constraint. Man gains such dignity when, ridding himself of all slavery to the passions, he presses forward to his goal by freely choosing what is good and, by his diligence and skill, effectively secures for himself the means suited to this end."127

and...

"The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose."

A pretty simple rule. If you don't like it, then just don't be Catholic.

Let nothing frighten you.

Yes thats true. I actually know a priest  who has children. I also know a Deacon in our own Parish who lost his wife in the last year. They had 3 children together and I believe he is seriously considering going back to Seminary to finish his liturgical studies and become ordained. After he has finished mourning his wife that is. :(

Also, a married priest from the Church of England can get the bishop's permission for Catholic priesthood. If his wife were to die, however, he would not be allowed to re-marry.

And I'm not sure, but I don't think permanent deacons are allowed to marry again either if their wives were to die.

Whether a widower can become a priest or not, it's unlikely he could advance in the heirarchy, let alone become a candidate for the papacy.

The Church needs more priests, but it has plenty of candidates for its higher offices.
