I agree and that is why this matters. I do think this is a backdoor attempt to reduce the military the way dems have always wanted to. Republicans were just stupid enough to fall for this in 2011.
And it's not meaningless; those of us earning livings in this way don't consider a day a week to be meaningless, particularly when there isn't much work out there to make up for that lost day in this crappy ass economy. Many of which are average americans too who just happen to work in federal employment. Hard working conservatives no less and I hate to tell you all, but the DOD is really getting hit the hardest by this bullshit--not the leaches everyone here claims to hate, but the support system for our military. And everyone is focused on sticking it to the 'evil federal employee'. Yeah, EPA are federal employees, Health and Human Services also, but so too are those that support the military behind the scenes, many of whom would be welcome on this board.
I don't know about that. My son says that most of the time, civilians are the ones that mess things up. I can't tell you how many problems he and other Marines have had with civilians in admin. Maintenance isn't much better. They need someone to repair something like their heat or pipes...good luck getting it done within the month. He's dealt with it for 7 years so it's not like these are isolated incidents.
Still, I'm sorry people will lose their jobs, but again, the cuts are 0bama and his cabinet's choice. Like the rest of us who are having to tighten our belts, they have to make choices. It's their CHOICE to cause the most pain to people. Families have to make decisions too. For us, we choose to cut out some extras that make life easier and more fun but aren't necessary instead of things like heat and electricity. The government can make those choices too. But they won't because they no longer serve the people. They just throw tantrums and hurt as many people as they can when they don't get their way.
What are we supposed to do? We can't keep spending and spending and spending. Frankly, I can't afford to pay more taxes and I'm really mad that my grandchildren's children will be paying for our selfishness. Unfortunately, "we the people" don't get to choose where cuts are made. Should we beg our "betters" in the government to please, please, please spend more (followed, of course, by more taxes to pay for the spending...or more borrowing...from China) because we don't want cuts from our bloated government? But then, we'll probably have another last minute bend over from the Republicans with the same excuse they always give, "this isn't that important, we'll get through this and hold firm on bigger issues".
