That is why they have smart cars and not the gas guzzlers Americans seem to gauge themselves on.

In effect, more mass transit, more car pool
more one trip instead of 20 a day would be good to stop waste

And if only people didn't vote 3rd party in 1980 and 2000 and we listened to the great Jimmy Carter, none of this would have been a problem.

Yet another thing I blame Ralph Nader and John Anderson for.

How possibly could Nader have said Gore and Bush were the same, when Gore was the #1 nominee ever on the green side.

In 1980, the Reagan landslide was so massive (although less than the one in 1984, it was still enormous) that the presence of John Anderson wasn't even a factor.

BTW, three weeks ago, local gas was $2.82. When I went to town today to grocery shop, the same station had $3.59. On the news this morning, it was claimed the choke point is at the refineries.....getting ready for the new ethanol formulation.

Oh well, I never liked corn that much anyway.....

News Flash, Bumble....80% of the US is rural land, where distance between towns doesn't allow for "more car pool, more mass transit" as well as the vast amounts of goods moved via diesel truck across the nations' interstates.  Our population and square mileage is staggeringly larger than that of most European nations, and our commerce depends on reasonable gas prices to keep the prices of everything else in check.  You can't just assume "more mass transit" is the answer.

I'm not familiar with the status of mass transit in eastern Connecticut, but I reasonably assume it's better than the status of mass transit in many other parts of the country.

If Atman doesn't like the gasoline prices, he could probably take a bus.

Sir, where I live is far better than most of America in regards to public transport, and even here, the options suck.
