No, not preparing for the end of the world. I leave that for Western folks new age types.

Nope.

They are offering sacrifice mostly of smoke and not incense, but it would work as to the smell.. As well as prayers,.to the four cardinal points as well as having some ritual meals.

They are setting themselves for the end of the old world and the Birth of the next one...

But the end of the world? Not so much.

They are deeply spiritual people connected to the land, in ways that most of us can barely imagine. Oh and they are probably laughing at all these ladinos using the Aztec sun stone...that is if they are even aware of it.

BTW, for those lurkers that don't know, the Mayans inhabited the Yucatan peninsula, extremely southern Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, and Honduras. The Aztecs were the ones that inhabited central Mexico. The area she's talking about had never seen a f'n Mayan and probably not even an Aztec.

As I've said in a previous post, I make no claims about being an expert on the Maya, but I'm beginning to wonder if I may know more about them than nadin.

According to a conversation that I had a while back with an actual Mayan who was also an amateur historian and archaeologist and who was the grandson of a traditional Mayan healer, the major religious ceremonies are still carried out at or near the historical sites such as the pyramids/temples and cenotes. I would think that the end of the old calender would merit a major religious ceremony. I doubt the Mayans would travel to Tijuana to visit with nadin or to some pueblos in the southwestern US.
