This is not any advocacy of a new policy; no way.

And no, no primitive currently here is under any threat of banning, because no primitive here has come even close to violating any of the rules.  As long as the rules are followed, no sweat, and they've been followed.

This poll is simply for discussion.

I voted YES. Why not?  There are great mods, post count restrictions, blocked access to certain rooms and members that will rip phoneys and trolls to shreds. Right?

Well, yes, SGT Snuggle Bunny and Freeper are great moderators, the best in the field.  Admirable.

And true, there's certain forums that are closed excepting to bona fide decent and civilized people.

And right, members here do a pretty good job of handling trolls on their own, without adminstrative and moderative involvement.

However, I'm sure there's another side to the coin.

I'm kind of ambivalent about it.  I don't see burning the effort to actively keep them out, in the manner DU does with its opposition and for which it receives so much well-deserved mockery.  Yet I also find Liberals annoying assholes with opinions based on emotion rather than analysis, and a danger to liberty and freedom due to their sheer inability to ever discuss issues in terms that don't circle back to "I'm compassionate and you're just mean."

I don't mind if they join and participate in a civil, rule-abiding fashion, but I see no reason to actually encourage them either.

Right, and one wonders how much they actually contribute, given that decent and civilized people use logic and reasoning and common sense in discussion, while primitives use "feelings."

The chasm seems unbridgeable; there doesn't seem any common ground at all.

Well, it depends.

Trolls are good chew toys.

But primitives making an honest effort--as honest as they're capable of, which isn't much--are a different issue here, and they're the ones I'm wondering about.

A conservative echo chamber is not something I am interested in.

Poop and scoot is an acceptable hazard, the mods do a good job of dealing with that. If you don't care to engage with the primitives just ignore them.

I don't think it is healthy to emulate DUmies in any way.

Well, my dismayment is that we seem to have some members who are a little over the top when it comes to emulating Pollyanna, actually believing if we're nice to primitives, the primitives will be nice back.

Maybe that's possible, but in all my own eleven years of watching the primitives, I've never once seen it happen.

Uh, I hardly think conservativecave is an "echo chamber."

We have all sorts of ideological fisticuffs going on here, unlike Skins's island.

I share DAT's ambivalence. Do I WANT primitives here? No.

Do I care if they show up, as long as they play nicely? No.

There's always a chance of improvement when talking to decent and civilized people. I can hold out hope that maybe a visitor or lurker may proudly wear the moniker "former DUmmie."

I voted yes, but mainly because we are better than they are.

Trolls may be fun for a while. But sometimes they linger for far too long. I would like the mods to be a bit quicker to kick them out.

Kirk and Jeanette haven't trolled at all. Fine.

It's the trolls who are deliberately low level annoyance that get me. They don't do anything outright to get banned, but they won't answer questions, hold a discussion, or participate outside of shouting slogans. I would like to see that type banned faster than they they currently are.

Liberal participating: Fine.
Liberal trolling: The mods need to start the clock ticking. There is no reason why a troll should be able to start fights all across the board, and utterly disrupt the cave.

For DU. A mole is different from a troll. I'm there not to disrupt you, but to see your true intentions. I'm more interested in mining quotes than disrupting DU.

But.
Paulbots are intolerant of any opinion other than their own. Paulbots have been far more disruptive here than DUers.
Paulbots should have very short leashes.

There's not going to be any policy change; as long as a primitive doesn't break any rules, the primitive's safe.

This is just an issue I tossed out here because I've been getting messages from long-time blue-chip members (a category in which you're included, of course) who are uncomfortable with having them here.

It's for discussion only; there's not going to be any changes.
