the party of mean-> Senate Republicans Vote Down International Disabilities Treaty

The U.S. Senate today killed the ratification of a United Nations treaty designed to improve the prospects of those with disabilities around the world by a vote of 61-38, ending the best chance of any significant treaty making its way through the lame duck session. All “no” votes came from Republicans and the measure fell just five votes short of achieving the two-thirds of the Senate approval required for passage.

In voting down the Convention on the Rights of People with Disability, Senate Republicans have rejected a treaty based principally around the United States’ own Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which passed 91-6 in 1990. The major provisions of the treaty were modeled after ADA’s requirements of providing equal access to all citizens regardless of disability; it’s passage also would have given the United States a seat on a committee charged with aiding in implementation.

Just goes to show you that all you have to do is label a bill or treaty with a title that sounds good and the DUmmies will support it blindly.
I bet not of the DUmmies could tell you one thing that would be in that treaty.

I am glad that the Senate had enough votes to keep us from giving away another piece of our sovereignty today. If this had passed the UN would be able to require all disabled babies that are born to be registered with the UN. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to realize that registering usually leads to an outcome that is not good.

1. Way to go GOP. Good way to lose another voting block and their families and supporters.

Did you want to start kicking canes out from under people now too? Maybe take some of those wheel-chair ramps out of public places. Hell, if you can't pull yourself up why should you be able to be there?

Sad part is a lot of them will probably buy the spin that you are spewing. The senate did nothing that will effect the disabled in a bad way.

3. the GOP voted this down because they believed the UN would take away their sovereignty

which would effect their ability to home school kids.
part of the nut Agenda 21 conspiracy.
How do you govern with people like this?

Yeah how do you govern when people won't sign away our sovereignty? It gets in the way of your socialistic dreams of a USA that is no longer a sovereign  country. Agenda 21 is not a conspiracy, it is something that is happening and it is something that is not good.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Richard Trumka, "They're trying to take the Internet"
Last edited Mon Dec 3, 2012, 08:43 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

This year, they tried to take our cupcakes and our football referees. Now, they're
trying to take the Internet.

We don't usually email you about internet rights, but this is big. Next week, a UN
conference in Dubai will consider amendments to a treaty that would significantly
infringe on our internet policy.

This isn't hyperbole-the Internet as we know it is at risk. Sign the petition, and
support freedom of association and freedom of speech on the internet. act.aflcio.org/c/18/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=5157&tag=em20121203 ]

The International Telecommunications Union (or ITU), a United Nations agency, is
considering new rules that could clamp down on the fundamental freedoms of citizens
online. A group of giant internet corporations and countries, including China, Egypt
and Saudi Arabia-countries that already impose heavy restrictions on internet
freedoms-have put forward proposed regulatory changes to the UN World Conference on
International Telecommunications in December 3.

Under their proposals, governments and companies all over the world have much more
scope to restrict internet access and monitor what we do online.

So far the proposal has flown under the radar, but its implications are so serious
that we're mobilizing right now to make sure that the ITU and its member countries
know that we won't let them take away our right to free speech online. And this
won't just have repercussions in the US-people in poorer countries and under
dictatorships would be hurt even more.

If accepted, the changes would allow:
* Increased government restriction or blocking of information disseminated via the
internet;
* Creation of a global regime of monitoring internet communications, including the
demand that those who send and receive information identify themselves ;
* Requirement that the Internet only be used in a 'rational' way;
* Governments to shut down internet access if they decide that it may interfere in
the internal affairs of countries or that information of a 'sensitive nature'
might be shared;
* Introduction of a new pricing regime which would increase costs and slow down
internet growth, especially in the poorer countries.

So many workers are affected by internet policy, even if we don't think about it as
we go about our day. The Internet represents one of the few places in our world that
is open and accessible by everyone. We need to make sure our voices are heard before
US representatives head to the conference.

Stop the proposal to restrict the Internet in its tracks by signing right now:

Ok here we have a socialist union thug against the UN.   DUmmies are easily confused by this turn of events.

30. We won elections this year because of the internet.

The RW wants it to call their own--just like they took the media. Control the message, control the elections.

They love that no one is talking about this. It's high on their agenda.

Here we see the confused musings of a drug addled mind.  See kids this is why we say:  DON'T DO DRUGS :rotf:

The DUmmies, of course never read the treaty.
But they support it because they think it will open the floodgates for disability bandwagon claims.

Sounds like the DUmpmonkeys want to pass it to find out what's in it.
They haven't a clue.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Nope treaties need 2/3s of the senate.

Last I heard we already had the Americans With Disability Act so why do we need the UN to tell us what to do ?

:thatsright:  Isn't that the truth!  I really wish some lurkers would see this thread.  All international treaties should be met with great skepticism, suspicion, and a sense of self-preservation.  This is too hard for DUmmies.

Because it's a World Government..............................and the DUmmies want this. Screw sovereignty.

Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
