Do you believe in the Incas' "End of the World As We Know It" prophecy?

I am not a 12-12er.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a dramatic change in the world as we know it, but I don't *think* it will be the "end of the world."

Considering that since the creation of that calendar we've switched calendars (Julian to Gregorian) and added in enough Leap Days that the date shown on that calendar has already passed, no I'm not a 12-12'er

Yeah, it was the Mayans, not the Incans, they were hundreds of miles and hundreds of years apart.

No, I don't buy into that stuff.  The Mayans themselves were fairly indefinite about what was supposed to happen, only some of them thought it was going to be the Big One.  Also, at the time as far as they knew the "World," it was basically the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Central America to its south, so what's a Mayan 'End of the World' prophecy really worth?  And, on top of all that, their entire society collapsed a few hundred years before the Spanish even showed up to wipe out the Aztecs, who pretty much had it coming.  If they were such great frickin' prophets, how come they didn't see their own collapse coming and avert it?

But I'm quite willing to take advantage of those who do.

12.12.12 is Aaron Rodgers day, so yes, I am a 12-12er.

If you mean the Mayan stuff that is 12-21.  And I am that too. Saves money on Christmas presents.

If the world is going to end on the 12th than I'm not going to bother writing my 12 page paper for history.

Not the 12th but the 21. Anyway, the world already ended on March 10, 1982.

When I was in grade school they talked about the world ending in 1960. 1960 came and went and I thought things would be ok.......... unfortunately there was a presidential election.

In 1960 Kennedy/Johnson was elected and the spending started at wharp speed when Johnson became president, so I guess the end STARTED in 1960.

Maybe they were just talking about the end of the USA as we know it........

I wonder if the "cliff" agreement will be signed or at least agreed to on 12/21/2012.

I remember when I was a kid in 5th or 6th grade, learning about the Mayan calender, and the teacher asking us to figure out how old we would be on 12/21/2012.  It's the day before my 60th birthday, and I thought I wouldn't care cause I would be sooooo old.

Well, now that it is less than 3 weeks away.... I am NOT old!!!!! I have been joking about if the world ends on the 21st, then I won't have to turn 60. On the other hand, it won't end, so that I do have to turn 60.

In the grand scheme of things, I am quite confident that I will be turning 60 on the 22nd..... but, damn, does it sound old.  :thatsright:

I've seen your picture, your 60 looks an awful lot like a very hawt 40.  I wouldn't want the world to end, either.   :naughty:

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.
