Velvet earned her pay again today.
My company recently moved into a new building, which is actually the frame of an older building which was gutted and rebuilt. The building is still under construction, but we're working out of it. We have had a variety of Bobcats, trenchers, powered scaffolds, asphalt trucks, et al around the building.
Velvet and I walked out the front door this morning. We turned right at the sidewalk, and she stopped. She planted her feet, raised her ears, and looked up. I started to look up as I stopped with her, and saw a shape passing right in front of us into my field of vision.
The sign company was moving an iron frame from the back of a boom truck parked on the street to set in two holes in the ground - moving it without a ground guide, I should add. The iron frame was about 5 feet long and 4 feet tall, and I am sure it would have hit me in the head if Velvet hadn't alerted me.
After I praised Velvet, I had a word with the guy running the boom. Actually, I had several words, beginning with "What in the **** is wrong with you?" I think he got the picture.
