UPDATE: Velvet continues to do well. She really settled down around children out in public; the time we spent at the PX, Commissary, and the mall have really paid off.

Moose, Red, Velvet, and I went out for dinner this evening at the local Red Lobster. The waitress, bless her heart, brought me a Braille menu! We laughed. To her credit, she also brought a bowl of water for Velvet when I asked for it (not every restaurant will do that).

A former service dog is staying with us for the weekend while his mommy (a neighbor) goes on vacation.  He's big compared to Scrappy, and a spoiled little boy.  He's gone downstairs twice and gobbled up all the cat's food, destroyed a couple of the cat's toys, and loves hanging out in the kitchen when dinner is being prepared. 

That tail is vicious.  Watch out, or he'll knock over your beer.

Darn it! Velvet blends into the background and we can't see her very well.

The other day at the grocery store, there was a fellow with a golden retriever comanion dog. It was the best dog and very friendly. It didn't get hyper and still stayed by his person the whole time.

Service dogs have to put up with a lot of people - usually kids - grabbing and pulling and dumping on them. They're trained to take all that stuff in stride.

They are wonderful animals.
