Soldiers, police, and firefighters have to work on holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Wal-Mart strike was a non-story, but still shows how ungrateful they are.

You can bet that hospitals and emergency rooms were open, and fully staffed, holiday or not.  Some departments will be closed, but the medical and support departments always have personnel on call.

Oh the line my boyfriends ex uses is well some things where lives are on the line there is the necessity and expectation to have to work. Retail in her view is not in that category so they have no business being open. Don't shoot the messenger. Just letting you all know that this is the latest moonbat retort. Apparently businesses can not open on the hours they see fit and people who have employment remorse are allowed to stomp their feet over a condition of employment they were well aware of. Apparently Walmart chained anyone on the street they could fin to work there don't you know. Apparently the employees had no choice in the matter. Rolls eyes.

Welllll, if you want to go down that road, not as long as the last time the Double A (Which I always understood to stand for 'Airborne Assholes') made an actual combat jump, since every "Combat" jump they've made since then was either a gratuitous addition to the plan to justify their existence, or could just as easily have been accomplished by landing Herks and walking off of them after the Rangers seized an LZ...but they do provide the valuable service of being a recruiting ground for the Ranger Regiment, which provides about all the real combat jump capability we'll ever actually need.  It's not still an airborne division because there's a tactical or operational need for a division drop anywhere, but for institutional and internal Army political reasons.

While I agree that there is very little tactical need for an airborne division to be able to jump anywhere in the world in 18 hours as a whole, The power projection from CONUS it offers to send a Brigade here or there is fairly substantial, as opposed to the 60 day turnaround you might have with a heavy brigade.   Add in to that we provide seasoning for the SF/Regiment rejects, and it is still a relevant organization.
