My 14 year old daughter went to A-kon today, which is some Anime Convention thingy. Anyway, she wanted to go as some character called Kululu. Here is the picture...

So my husband made the head for her. He use fiberglass and a ball to make the shape. Then he used a smaller ball and fiberglass to make the white rounded things where the ears should be. My daughter helped a little on the applying of the fiberglass, the sanding and painting. SHe said people were stopping her and wanting to take pictures with her all day long.

Yes, I thought they weren't big enough to see out of but apparently she could.

Oh, most definitely.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was those Star Wars and Star Trek geeks who learn the languages, dress in costume, never go out on dates...that kind of thing.

Seriously though, between your quilting and your husbands fiberglass talents, you guys should put on shows at JoAnn stores or something.

Actually my husband travels to Japan every so often for work, she has demanded the next time he goes that he take her. Her good friend is 1/2 japanese and visits her grandma there every once in awhile as well. I think perhaps I can blame her friend for his obsession.

I wouldn't worry. It's a hobby that keeps her off the street, right? It was that or midnight basketball. I think she picked a good one.

But I'm like you, I don't get the appeal of anime. I work at a library and we have a tone of anime shows that circulate A LOT. It's interesting to watch the trends.

Good idea. Perhaps there is a 12-step program out there. There is for everything else.

Alot of the appeal of anime is the art work and some say the stories. What some ofthem do not realise though is that alot of the anime shown here in the US is edited heavily for content. Even some of the most popular ones have scenes that wouldn't pass network standards so they have to cut the violence and other stuff out.
