nadinbrzezinski (110,686 posts) Hate to pont this out, but....losses could get close to the trillion here So far three people killed...which is exceptional, but the economic losses are quickly reaching worst case scenario. You people in the middle of this stay safe.

Yes, models of storms like this lead to much higher numbers of casualtiesSo far plans to reduce casualties are working.
undeterred (32,038 posts) 6. So the Right will blame Obama for adding to the deficit.
Texasgal (12,443 posts) 8. Speaking of financial lossis not pretty right now. C'mon Nads.. people LIVES are at stake!
nadinbrzezinski (110,686 posts) 11. Why I pointed both.Sorry, as a former emergency responder we think on both spheres... I guess holding two thoughts is tacky. Oh wait, didn't the President of the United States mention his concern or the economy this morning? Tacky I guess.
flamingdem (19,546 posts) 10. But wait Willard wants to give 2 trillion to the Pentagon! In fact he'd never want to give it to NYC, too many liberals
nadinbrzezinskiHate to pont this out, but....
Nada is wrong it's getting close to a bazillion dollars.
Slow Joe says it's likely to be one point trillion bucks.
Nada is wrong it's getting close to a bazillion dollars.Flood damage will be pretty high and cheating insurance claims will be even higher. Most credible people put this at $20 billion but if the Obama regime gets involved it could quickly spiral into the trillions like Nada said.
Only a matter of time before the great gNads, just had to school the unwashed. Is she making another run for DOTY??. or, will Pedro out-stupid the scrunt??Late in the game, pear-shape. Pedro is ahead by several strides.
And then she goes on to "pont" it out. How stupid!Reminds me of the people who say "Not to change the subject, but...," and then they change the subject. Just come out and talk about whatever you're going to say, don't sit there and act like you hate to "pont" this out and then "pont" it out, you ugly, obese butterball.
There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site

I guess Obama will be bailing out the insurance companies this time. They will be the ones hit hardest by this storm.
It was a category 1 storm at best, Nads. Just beacause you wanted a Katrina so Bam Bam could strut around and brag about how his response was better than Bush's to a compliant media doesn't mean you get one. If by "plans to reduce casualties" you mean order the evacuation of the beach, then the authorities knew what to do without you being around.
My wife is doing the 'OMG it's so horrible!!!" while I'm going, "umm the East Coast deals with this, often." Not that it's not a large sized storm, with allot of flooding and damage, but just how much is the MSM overstating the whole thing, just so Oblahma can ride in and save everyone? The MSM is already pumping this up.Disgusting.
In 2006, the Congress modified the Insurrection Act as part of the 2007 Defense Authorization Bill (repealed as of 2008).On September 26, 2006, President Bush urged Congress to consider revising federal laws so that U.S. armed forces could restore public order and enforce laws in the aftermath of a natural disaster, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition. These changes were included in the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 (H.R. 5122), which was signed into law on October 17, 2006.Section 1076 is titled "Use of the Armed Forces in major public emergencies." It provided that:The President may employ the armed forces... to... restore public order and enforce the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident, or other condition... the President determines that... domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order... or [to] suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy if such... a condition... so hinders the execution of the laws... that any part or class of its people is deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution and secured by law... or opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.[9]
Haley Barbour activated the Miss. Guard on August 26http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_government_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina#U.S._National_GuardShortly before midnight on Friday, September 2, the Bush administration sent Governor Blanco a request to take over command of law enforcement under the Insurrection Act (one of the exceptions to the Posse Comitatus Act), but this request was rejected by Blanco.[62] Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi also rejected a similar request.Governor Blanco did make a request to the Federal government for additional National Guard troops (to be under her command) to supplement the 5,700 Louisiana National Guard troops available in Louisiana at the time.[63] However, the necessary formal request through the federal National Guard Bureau was not made until Wednesday, a full two days after the hurricane hit and when much of the city was already under water; Blanco explained that she didn't understand specific types and numbers of troops needed to be requested.
