I can't stand hearing the Chicago parents asking what they are supposed to do with their children

YOU chose your lifestyle choice! YOU have to do something with your childen! If you have to pay for extra day care, there is nothing to worry about.

THE JOY OF BEING A PARENT OUTWEIGHS THE COST!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021316063

Yeah, except for the fact that many parents might not have the money to pay a babysitter while they're off busting their ass at a job. Meanwhile, you're sitting on your ass eating cheetoes, bloviating on what children's parents should do. All the while, the innocent children are being deprived of an education simply because these unionista teachers feel they're entitled to more money, and more benefits.

Unions are great... :whatever:

The poster has made numerous flameworthy threads like this over the years. They seem very out of touch with a lot of groups they don't personally want to identify with, especially people with children.

A little comparison, if I may:

Chicago Teachers:
$76,000 year average salary plus benefits.
16 percent payraise offered (and rejected) in latest contract
Union representation to negotiate/demand better working conditions, pay, benefits, etc.
180 instructional days per year (average 6 hours per day)
Paid vacations and holidays, including summers, Christmas, etc.
Generous retirement packages guaranteed by contract.

Military member:
$30,000 year salary, assuming you're at least an E-5 over 4 years.  If you want that $76K, you better be in the senior O-4/O-5 range.
1.7 percent payraise for 2013.  Take it or leave it.
Don't like your working conditions?  Clean the sand outta your vagina, ruck up, move out, you ****ing *****!
No union representation--AYFKM?
Working conditions: -40 to +140, everything in between.
30 days of leave per year (and how many people outside training commands actually get to USE that leave?)  Other than that, 100-hour weeks ain't uncommon.  And yes, they CAN take away your birthday.
Retirement plans subject to change at the whim of the administration in power (Tricare premiums, anyone?)

Dear Chicago Teachers,

Quit ****ing whining and get the **** back to work, not that we'd notice considering the shitty product you've been turning out for decades now.

You know, with all the so called college educated DUmmies out of work looking for a job, why not put them to teaching in the schools in Chicago....oh wait....they all majored in Wymins Studies or some such DUmb shit instead of actually getting an education.....nevermind.

While many teachers are a bit moonbatty, I do feel a little bad for them, after all, their hands have been tied from giving out consequences for poor behavior and poor performance.  Children often can't be held back a year for not learning what they should have because it could hurt their  "self esteem."  Without parent support, detentions and suspensions aren't that terrible.  When my cousin got a three day suspension from school, he got to spend those three days doing yard work and whatever other chores his parents came up with.  When many kids get suspended they get to hang out and enjoy themselves.

My friend did teach for America for several years, and she had 12th grade students who couldn't do basic arithmetic.  She had no chance of getting those kids to grade level within one year, no matter how good of a teacher  she is.  I do think that the Chicago teacher's demands are ridiculous, but I would be nervous about performance rating too facing those odds.

My son was having lots of trouble in algebra(9 th grade) when I discovered that his problem wasn't algebra but simple arithmetic. It took 3 months of intense work to get him up to A's in his AP algebra class. He's doing fine in AP Calculus now but his high school ranking could have been a little higher if he had been taught basic arithmetic in grade school the old fashioned way. Damn the new math and letting them have calculators in early grade school.

Recognizing that certain numbers were squares/cubes or square/cube roots of other numbers was beyond him. Had he been taught arithmetic the old fashioned way and not allowed calculators until much later he wouldn't have had such a problem.

Damn Bill Ayers and the sooper intelligent liberals controlling the schools....they're DUmber than dirt...or it's their evil plan of DUmbing down America.

Just like the Wisconsin union teachers, the Chicago union teachers are proudly showing that they care more about money than about helping kids get a good education, as they have no problem abdicating their responsibilities to the kids entrusted to them, letting said kids be deprived of an education so that he teachers can throw their little temper tantrums and demand that the taxpayers throw more money at them, even as Chicago's educational record is among the poorest in the country (i.e. only a very small percentage of Chicago's 4th graders are able to read at a 4th grade level).

I'm not so sure.  A lot of folks are going to be looking (even some Democrats) up at Wisconsin and saying:  "Hey, What's up with that?"

The OP is how Obama thinks. Someone complained about the high cost of gas under Obama. Obama replied they should buy a new car that gets better mileage.

I was listening to AM radio this weekend while on a trip to my mother's place (my wife had control of the radio). NPR of all things (yuck) There was a teacher on talking about how getting the big raises equals better education.
