The only song I know of from him is 'Copperhead Road'. He was a one hit wonder. He does have a cult following, but I don't recall him stating his political beliefs?
He wasn't really a one-hit wonder. Copperhead Road seemed to get more heat than his previous stuff because it was somewhat cross promoted on both the country stations and rock stations. I think drugs cost him his record label after the fourth album and then things did start going down hill.
Guitar Town (the album) made it to number 1 on the US County chart.
Exit 0 made it to 15
Copperhead Road (the album) made it to 15.
All three of those albums had some great songs. More good songs, on average, than most albums being produced at the time.
His fourth album, The Hard Way, was kind of a mixed bag. I think this is when the drug use really started to catch up to him. Not long afterwards is when he went full moonbat.
Despite his moonbattiness he still can put out a good song every now and then.
I went to see him in Savannah during the Copperhead Road tour. He was good. He didn't talk politics.
