the meme is irrelevant now, since we have over 300 million people in our nation.. and if we all
had to become big macho hunters again and shoot squirrels or rabbits to survive, we'd be dead in

the image/iconic symbology is portrayed by the GOP'ers in order to send a "message".. i.e. "hey,
I've got guns.. I can take care of myself and my family" (by paying to hunt on private land). and
sorry to play the race card-- the imagery/gun fetish also says: "I'm armed and know how to
shoot, so dark skinned people-- don't try to steal my/our stuff.. I'll shoot you dead".

Keep in mind our nation is chock full o' bigots, so there's no doubt this message is being
sent with the guns/ammo fetish.

it is part of rural America, and yes even DEMOCRATS hunt in rural areas.

I prefer to bag my game with 300 mm lenses, but round where I live, it helps people put meat on the table... it is party independent.

(In case this makes zero sense, I prefer to be behind a camera, not a trigger that shoots ammo down range)

To be fair, there are those that claim Democrats hunt as well, but the insane rule the day in this thread.

Lol, first day of deer season is pretty much a holiday around here, I know many businesses that are closed that day simply because the majority of their employees wouldn't show up that day anyway.  And yet according to the DEC, the deer population is still too high in our area.  Deer and turkey are a nuisance around here.

I worked for Ford Motor Company... the first day of deer season in Michigan is a company holiday.  Doesn't matter if you're in Michigan, Tennessee, or California.  You get the day off.

Because if God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

I hunt because I love dove and venison meat. It's the challenge of hunting. Self-discipline of being quiet and keeping adrenaline in check. Remembering to breathe, squeezing the trigger.

It's very cathartic in some ways. (I hope DUmmies read tis next part):

My boys are shooting dove seriously for the first time this year. It's a rite of passage. One of many. Teaches them how fragile life is, and how final shooting something is.

It's respect for nature, respect for the tools we use, and respect for ourselves.

I do not hunt because I'm too lazy to get up early.  However, two years ago I gave my grandson a 35 caliber lever action rifle, and that season he got his first deer with it.  He goes hunting with his dad, and now there is always some deer sausage in my freezer.  All the benefits of hunting without the effort!

That same grandson has already laid claim to three of the pistols in my collection when I pass on.  Told him he's got a long wait, 'cause I'm only 69.
